Hi, I started Advair about 2 weeks ago because my asthma has been bad. Ever since then I feel like I'm constantly hungry. I've never been this hungry before. Has anyone had a similar experience with Advair? I'm not sure what to do because my asthma is a lot better on this medication, but my eating is totally out of control. Anyone have any advice?

I've been using Advair for 10 years. I honestly can't tell if it makes a difference or not in my appetite if I forget to take it in the morning.

Advair contains a steroid and one of the side effects can be an increase in appetite.

Advair is a topical steroid. It should no more increase your appetite than a cortisone cream you apply for a skin rash. Increased appetite and a boatload of other side effects you hear about are when taking cortisone orally.

The steroid contained in Advair (Fluticasone) although technically described as a "topically" inhaled type of medication does not have the same mechanism of action as a topical steroid cream.

Topical administration reduces the risk of systemic side effects.

Inhaled medications act both locally and systemically and are likely the most rapid way to deliver drugs to the brain, as the substance travels directly to the brain without being diluted in the systemic circulation.
