Tips for Lowering "Bad" Cholesterol & Improving Heart Health

Hello all! I am looking for nutrition resources related to lowering cholesterol levels. I recently had my blood work taken and I was surprised to find out that I have high total cholesterol and high triglycerides (fats) in my blood. Given my age, BMI and fitness levels, and taken together with my family history of heart disease and high cholesterol, the doctor thinks that I may have a genetic form of high cholesterol, called "Familial Combined Hyperlipidemia". (more testing is needed to confirm this diagnosis). She recommended that I should alter my diet in order to reduce my cholesterol levels as much as I can. I was wondering if anyone had any good nutrition resources related to cholesterol and heart health? If so, please recommend :-)
