P90X fail! VENT!

The 'girl' push-up is merely a modified push-up according to Shaun T. It's just as good for you as an unmodified!
I like what he says about that.... that it is better for you to do a modified pushup and go all of the way down for a complete range of motion than it is for you to do a regular pushup where you are struggling to go down an inch or two, even.
I like both Tony Horton and Shaun T and feel like what Shaun says can be applied to p90X, too.
That said -- keep working at it. Pause the video and work at it if you have to. If I don't feel like I am getting a move right, I will pause the video and work at it until I feel I've gotten it down enough to progress with the rest.0 -
Baby steps! You have to crawl before you can walk! That goes with modifying before doing advanced exercises. Dont give in, you will get there soon enough!0

Not a fail because:So I started today.
Tomorrow you will be slightly stronger. Eventually, you'll do proper push ups but until then celebrate the fact you started and tried your best.0 -
Oi, shut up. I'm a bloke and I have ONLY ever done them the girlie way. I'd rather do 10/15 the girlie way than 2 the normal way.0

So I started today. I did the chest and back dvd and I feel like a failure because I did all the pushups the "girlie" way. Everyone on the DVD's did the pushups without bending their knees. Ugh. I completed the entire thing but with girlie pushups only! I feel like I failed at it. Hopefully I can do better as the weeks go on! I can already feel it in my arms!
Ok, vent over!
Today was day 1? Those people in the DVDs have done that program for 90 days and more. Dont let that fool you. Although they are real people who did the program, they completed the program already.
If you could do all the push ups already, you wouldnt be here posting about it. Wheres the fun in that? You say HOPEFULLY? There is no hopefully. As long as you keep showing up every day and doing your best you WILL get better. And the fact that you decided to do "girlie" push ups instead of trying more and hurting yourself is even more of a win!
Knowing your limitations and pushing yourself as hard as you can within your current skill level is a key to being successful in any fitness program. The worst and last thing you want to do is hurt yourself especially just starting out. Keep showing up every day and work hard!! Even when you can start doing regular push ups after you hit failure feel free to throw more "girlie" ones in there. I DO!
Good Luck on Plyo today!! For me that was the Hardest DVD when starting new.0
