help with lifting weights for a very beginner!!

Hi
I have been reading a lot of posts about amazing results from lifting weights and I would like to give it a go.
However, i am finding it a little bit confusing as i have never done any lifting before. I also have fibromyalgia, which means I can't do too much too soon, with my main problem area being my back.
Due to time and finances, I don't have access to a gym, but i have a set of metal dumb bells that my son left behind when he left home to move to Japan, so they are heavier than the girlie weights I have somewhere!
Can anybody recommend a good beginners programme/website/book that will have a programme in i can follow and help clear up some of the confusion? I don't want to be just randomly lifting weights, missing out whole muscle groups and basically not doing myself any good at all!
Thanks

Congrats on deciding to get into lifting! You won't regret it and you're smart to find a program instead of just randomly doing some curls here and there!
I HIGHLY suggest doing the program ChaLEAN Extreme. Even at a very beginner level as long as you have some weights you'll be able to do the program as it's geared towards going at YOUR level. It's one of my FAV lifting programs because it's so effective and friendly to people of ALL levels!
Feel free to friend me if you want more info (I can't seem to get email notifications if people respond to my comments)!0 -
I'm doing New Rules of Lifting for Women. It's an excellent program. But it sounds like you're very limited with equipment. It's going to be difficult for you to employ a heavy lifting routine without access to the right equipment. But definitely get online and see if you can find some moves to get you started. If you like it, then you can decide what to do for equipment later.
Good luck!0 -

check out "nerd fitness" - they have many good ideas of home workout with little to no equipment. Keep an eye out at thrift stores, yard sales & the lot - sometimes you can find stuff real cheap.0

I 2nd this. What you have is a good start if the dumb-bells are adjustable or you have different sets of varying weight. It would work best if you had access to a local gym with the equipment or invested in more. Like a power rack (some are cheap and you can find plan for a DIY project), bench, barbell and some small plates. Check on craigslist... sometimes there is gold in dem dar ads.0 -
Thank you for all your suggestions, I will definitely check out all the programs. :-) the dumbells are adjustable and I think there may be a barbell pole somewhere, but I will definitely keep my eye out for more equipment. I think freecycle will be a good place to look. Thanks again for your help :flowerforyou:0
