I like water - and drink a fair amount.
I know some of the benefits on staying well hydrated while dieting - but could do with some more tips as to why the water intake in such huge amounts is good?

From what I understand, drinking water helps several of your organs function better. For instance, water is a key factor in healthy kidney function. Also, drinking enough water keeps your body fluids in balance. This is why you get thirsty- your body is telling you the fluid levels are out of balance, and you need some water asap to get it balanced again. Another awesome benefit is that it keeps your appetite in check. So often, when we feel hungry, we're actually thirsty, but it can be hard to tell the difference. If we take in enough water every day, it eliminates that feeling of hunger when we're not actually hungry!!! This is especially great if you're trying to lose weight, since no one likes to be hungry all the time Clearer skin is another added benefit of water consumption
I drink between 80-100 oz of water a day, sometimes 120 oz if I'm really active. It's a great habit to have, you'll definitely reap the health benefits of being hydrated!0 -
I have also been told that the liver will do the job of the kidneys if there is not enough water to flush them through and as it's job is primarily to break down toxins and fat, by drinking water, it gets to do its own job!
And to cap it all, the only way fat leaves your body is by peeing so get drinking!!0 -
It helps to regulate organ function, digestion, and it will allow to you feel full without the calories. Our bodies are made up of ~60% water. By weight, our brains are ~75% water. Water keeps your hair shiny, your skin smooth, and maintains body fluids & functions (besides digestion, this means: absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature, according to WebMD). Also, adequate hydration prevents muscle fatigue (muscle cells, like other cells in our bodies, need to maintain fluids and electrolytes so they don't break down or become weak or shrivel).0

It isn't good or necessary. Your body gets lots of fluids from the food you eat and supplementing with liquid as needed is all you have to do. Drinking too much water actually can stress your kidneys and wash out some of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. There is no benefit weight loss or otherwise to drinking large quantities of water.0

Too much water is definitely bad for you but too little s not good either. I drink 2-3 litres of tea and coffee and water every day. For exercise days I up by a bottle. You do not get all you need from the food you eat and you certainly lose weight faster if you stay hydrated.
Well I do anyway!!!0 -

Water is only dangerous in very large quantities, water intoxication won't occur unless you drink a huge amount n a very short time. Although it is a very real danger, it doesn't happen from drinking the recommended 64 oz daily...
"Healthy adult kidneys are capable of processing 15 liters of water, or almost 4 U.S. gallons, per day, if one drinks the water in small quantities spread throughout the entire day. It is not advisable, however, to drink 15 liters of water daily over a long period. The United States Department of Agriculture, food and nutrition information center, in general recommends an average daily fluid intake, including liquids from foods and other beverages, of 2.7 liters or 91 ounces for women, and 3.7 liters or 125 ounces for men spread throughout the day."
