Boyfriend jeans, yeah or nay?

Also who can wear them? Can a slender, tall, fifty something wear them? Too trendy for that demographic? How the heck do you style them? And what actually makes them "boyfriend jeans"?
I am just a few pounds from goal. I need to upgrade my wardrobe. I like everything I try on. But... at fifty something, just because I can, doesn't mean I should. Goals...Look current, look fashionable, yet casual. Not interested in the cougar look, ugh. Classy, but not matronly.
So any input from the fashionista's?

Guys, it talks weird. I think it's alive. Should we poke it with a stick?0

Well, I might be upset if you were wearing MY bf's jeans, but otherwise, I too, have no clue.0
-
Just so people know what they are.
ETA: I can't wear them, my booty is too big, but I do think they're cute on other people.0 -
Try them on and see if they look good and you feel comfortable, I cannot wear them as I am apple shape, but boyfriend jeans are better on tall and slim people0
-
Nay. They're way too baggy. Look like "mom" jeans0
-
I prefer skinny jeans.0

This .. doesn't help. What makes them boyfriend jeans? Is it the cuffs? The rips? The fact that they look like they were salvaged out of the trash?0 -
I don't wear them, but I don't wear pants much at all. I'm a dresses and skirts girl. But if you look good in them, I don't think age should factor into the decision of whether or not to wear them.
What makes a boyfriend jean? They are generally just a more relaxed fit, usually a medium or light wash and with some level of distressing, and are usually worn cuffed at the bottom.
As far as how to style them, depends on the occasion. Since they are already very casual in nature, I would dress them up with a fitted jacket (blazer or moto jacket) and pointed-toe pumps.0 -
I think those are fine. And if you look good in them, I don't think there's really any type of jeans you shouldn't wear (except majorly ripped up ones). Unless you really like this look, I wouldn't wear these. These are mom jeans.

Hilarious!! Can I use this?0 -
Yes, definitely!! I am 40 and love them, and was in France twice recently and saw SO many women wearing them--and they absolutely didn't look like mom jeans. I like them with some sort of heel or wedge, and a slightly slouchy shirt (or, like, a tight tank), maybe a scarf. They are great...now I sort of think of them as Parisian. But I live in Europe, and fashion seems a little more cutting edge and open-minded here (at least compared to Hawaii and CA, where I've previously lived).0

Of course.
ETA: I didn't make this, it is a meme i saw quite some time ago, and remembered it was out there.0 -
Mom jean Yuk; boyfriend jeans need to stay on the boyfriend. They look tacky not stylish.0
-
Honestly, it only fits certain body types. If you have an *kitten* and arent chubby then yay. If not, please don't wear them. THey are very unappealing if you DONT have an *kitten*0
-
yes get one pair and rock them. If you don't like them donate and try something else.0
-
Hahaha ,some of these are soo funny! I guess the verdict is still undecided...I live in the Sierra, so pumps with a heel are out. Blazer I can do, as long as it's casual and not too business attire. I have no *kitten*. I don't do distressed, I think that is for the young and trendy.
I feel like that bunny while I am trying to build a wardrobe.0 -
Eff to da nay nay.
They pretty much hide all the beautiful curves that I prefer to see accented on a woman.0 -
I think they would be fine for anyone of any age to wear. You start venturing into (as my grandmother used to say) "mutton dressed as lamb" territory when you wear teenager clothes from the junior's section.
If Sharon Stone can wear them - so can other 50-pluses.

If you have to ask, then no... you can't wear them.0
-
Its the cut that makes them "boyfriend jeans" see how they are kind of loose and straight legged? boyfriend jeans.0

I think you've got your answer (no) there. Maybe skinny jeans and boots?? I didn't think about the no-*kitten* factor...not so good with the boyfriend cut (=pancake effect).
Some of these answers are classic, though! Seriously, some of the more stylish people I've seen have been wearing these...and they look amazing! (and I'm totally picky/not easily impressed). The French have won me over.
ETA: I don't think they look that great on SS above...but Jennifer Aniston can wear them well. Maybe because she has slightly more curves?0 -

Step 1: Buy a pair
Step 3: Wear it
Step 3: Take a photo of yourself from all angles
Step 4: If you determine you will hate yourself for wearing something so ill-fitted next year ~> To the rubbish bin ~ And be quick about it!!0 -

LMAO!!
Agreed.
I personally don't care for boyfriend jeans but on the right figure they're cute. Definitely check out some fashion blogs, it seems like fashion bloggers are in love with boyfriend jean styles the past few years and can be a good source of styling tips!!0 -
I think a lot of people on here are misunderstanding the boyfriend cut as literally wearing your boyfriends jeans, which is not was OP is referencing.
boyfriend's jeans = made for guys
boyfriend cut = made for women
okay now that that is cleared up, yes! totally rock them! they can be totally classy and modern as long as they aren't too distressed and you know what to dress them with. (blouse, blazer, tank and wedges in the summer, etc.)0 -
Funny how these styles always come back around. 80's women were wearing boy jeans and men were wearing skinny jeans. Fast forward and the styles are back.

I love them. Wendy from Wendy's lookbook has a video on boyfriend jean pairings that I saw a while ago. so I went out and got myself a pair. There are so many now. I got more of a slim fitting one since I'll always be a curvy girl no even when I get to my goal weight and that type is more flattering than the baggier versions. I especially like them rolled up. So comfy!0

LOVE I'm 53 ! Wear them proudly!0
