Redid my goals. New goal too low?

Lost 57 pounds so far and I decided I probably needed to adjust the MFP goals... The new calculations dropped 500 calories from my previous daily goal (2000). I'm not too happy with that. There were some days I was over 2000 (sometimes a lot) and I am very shaky about going to 1500.
Do others ignore the MFP math? Just use it to log. I was still losing at 2000. What about the whole 16 calories per pound of weight number (which seems total crazy to me)?
I think I'm going to just stick with 2000 until my weight loss stalls and then step down. Thought?

If your exercising regularly and you weren't eating back your exercise calories.. 1500 + exercise calories doesn't seem that insane.0
