  • Ok I had my tonsils out when I was 20...It was the worst 2 weeks of my life. You wont want to do ANYTHING but lay on the couch and cry. Actually you CANT EAT ICECREAM! It gums up in the back of your throat! I LIVED on otter pops and ramen and lost about 20 lbs. Honestly once they are out you wont get sick hardly ever again and thats a huge plus...but you have to go through hell first :( good luck!

had mine taken out at 17 with no real issues. went to a theme park about 10 days after and was fine. Might be a British thing but at hospital I was made to have scratchy foods such as cornflakes and toast after the first two days. The thinking being that it scraped off the scabs and helped things heal quicker. This was years ago so not sure if things have changed but remember that for every horror story there is usually 10 less dramatic tales but they are usually two boring to be published

I think you will be okay the hardest part will be not to overeat once you can start enjoying foods again. But cold foods will be your friend and I truly believe the key to getting better faster. My kid had his out and refused popsicles and anything cold he wanted food and he wanted it hot, it did not bode well for him. I've heard it is harder on adults for sure. Take care

DO NOT LET THEM!!! The Tonsils are Lymph Nodes, Lymph Nodes COLLECT Cellular Waste and allow it (cellular waste to flow via lymph Fluids to be filtered OUT of the Body. Waste from the HEAD, Mouth (Jaws/Teeth/Gums)... go to the Tonsils. If your Tonsils are irritated that means that You need to DETOX because Lymph Fluids are backed up and are NOT being filtered by your Kidneys and Liver. These days most knowledgeable doctors AVOID cutting out Lymph Nodes because it WILL cause Future sickness. Any Toxins in the Body Need to be in the Lymph (Lymph is the sewer system of the Body), when you cut them out future problems will happen. Detox and get healthy before you allow someone to cut on you or fill you with anti-biotics.

Go to YouTube and check out Dr. Robert Morse, ND. He is a Naturopathic doctor and Biologist. He has many videos on the Great Lymph System... You must learn how the Body works before you allow these Allopathic doctors to cut on you and alternatives.

Go Raw (Fruits, Salads, Fresh Fruit Juices) for 2 Weeks and see what happens. Your Body is telling you to CHANGE WHAT you eat, you are Unhealthy and your Body is Not eliminating its cellular waste.

ETA: 'Pus' is Lymph Fluid; those white specks or swelling in Tonsils are Lymph Fliuds, just like in a 'Pimple'. DETOX!

Yes, you should consult experts first. Like the ones on YouTube.

Good luck with the procedure, and no fair logging it as cardio.

I just had my tonsils and adenoids taken out about six months ago. I was miserable for about two weeks. I lived off of Slimfast shakes, pudding, mashed potatoes, and broth. Don't worry about it messing up your weight loss goals. In the two weeks after surgery, I lost seventeen pounds. Within three weeks of normal eating, I'd gained back all but six of those pounds. After my body got used to eating normally again, I resumed losing weight at a healthy pace.

    Some post-op advice:
Do not attempt to eat ice cream or anything else that is frozen. It will cause excruciating pain.
    Find a book to read.
Sleep on the couch. I couldn't handle lying flat for the first week.
Stay hydrated. You'll heal more quickly.

    Good luck!

Snack on large glasses of crushed ice. It really helped with the swallowing pain.

When people ask you if you've lost weight, you can say, "yes, I had my tonsils taken out".

All I will say is when people tell you that you get to eat all the ice cream you want, IT'S A BUNCH OF BULLSHTICK. Your throat is so raw you don't want anything at all.
...and for many people, their "sweet tooth" disappears, so ice cream just tastes like cold chalk. I had mine out this past May, at age 60. I STILL have no taste for sweets, but I cannot get enough salt....
I found that broth, risotto, mashed potatoes were ok. I was able to walk for exercise with no problem within a couple days.

The liquid lortab given for pain was vile and since it made me want to vomit, I scheduled chewable children's tylenol, then when ok'd by my doc, alternated with chewable ibuprofen. Liquid tylenol with codeine was much more palatable. But best was Chimay Blue label Belgian Ale.....just 2 ounces took the edge off the pain for several hours!

    OH my.

That message did scare me :( There is so much research going back and forth on the effectiveness of tonsils and it's hard to keep track. I'm scared to death but I know there is going to be horrible pain. I'm ignoring the calories thing, and will just try to concentrate on taking care of myself. And to the person saying I need to stay with someone- good idea. I will make sure someone is with me at all times. ugh :(

That person doesn't understand biology. Don't listen to that garbage. You'll be fine.

Completely agree that this is garbage. My brother had to have his tonsils and adenoids out around 15. He should have had them out way earlier but the doctor wouldn't listen to my mom. He had really bad sleep apnea, sleep walking, infections all the time including strep and sinus infections. Finally they did a consult and agreed that they needed to come out. Once they finally removed them, his tonsils were literally huge. Slightly bigger than a golf ball, each! The surgeon came out to my mom in the waiting area and was like "Who the heck had him wait this long to get them removed? He should have had it done years ago!". Doctors have good reasons for taking tonsils out and my brother hasn't had strep throat or sleep apnea since they were removed (he is now 21) and his sleep walking went from every single night to one a month at the most. He has also only had a couple of sinus infections since. He is so much better off now!
