A small success, but I'm counting it!

I joined MFP a little over three weeks ago, after a long illness, surgery and steroids to knock down an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic conspired to bring me up to my heaviest weight ever of 151.5 lbs. To look at the scales (still post-op and in some pain) and see that number was pretty devastating. I have always previously had no issues with my weight, in fact I was anorexic as a teenager - this is no longer an issue for me.

Since joining I have been eating at a modest deficit (500 cal), and increasing my exercise (walking) and have lost 5lbs in that time - a nice healthy, sustainable rate of loss.

The first week was an absolute killer, but I knew that as I would be returning to work the following week that I had to start some rehabilitation or being on my feet all day was going to wipe me out.

My success today is that I saw my surgeon, was told that all the stitches I had left the hospital with were now completely gone, everything was healed and I was taken off restrictions - given the green light to exercise freely.

The last year has been a nightmare of pain, which severely limited my ability to do much more than go to work then come home and sleep. For the first time in a year I am pain-free (apart from muscle aches from exercise). This is HUGE for me, and I feel better than I have in a long time.

Yes I am on hormone replacement therapy now, and yes my illness will be back in another organ system at some point, but for now I feel well, stronger than in a long time, and am actually enjoying exercise.

Really must get some "before" pics before they become "during" pics!
