Exercise while in Orthorexia/Anorexia Recovery?

Hello,

I'm currently recovering from orthorexia, and have been having such a hard time gaining weight. I love exercising because it's a way of relaxing for me. I was limiting my cardio and lifting heavy weights and found that i was actually losing weight, even though i was eating more and just lifting. I stopped exercising for this past week and have noticed a 3 lb gain. Is this because my body has finally realized what i'm trying to do, or is it because i stopped exercising? I really want to be able to do some sort of activity. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think this is definitely something you should discuss with your doctor.
A few of my friends have recovered from severe Anorexia and were recommended to not to any exercise until their body had repaired itself to a somewhat normal level. I am not to familiar with Orthorexia though. Like I said though, this is something you should be discussing with a professional who can give you the best chance at a healthy recovery.
    Good luck xx

Definitely discuss with doc. I am in recovery and was only allowed yoga at first, but even that got obsessive so I had to do nothing for a few weeks. The wt gain at first usually is bloat and food/water retention because body is scared to trust you will noursih it. Discuss it with your team and trust their decision.

    the 3lb is probably glycogen.

i agree with other posters about speaking to a doctor... the simple answer is if you are still losing weight then you need to eat more.

Yeah DEFINITELY speak to your doctor about this. Especially if you are prone to making exercise the new obsession.

I'm glad you have an appointment. That's really good.

I'm ... let's see ... thirty-one years out from anorexia. Fear of falling back into it still adds an extra-special sparkle to daily calorie counting and exercise tallying. For me, it's like being an alcoholic -- I'm either a recovering anorexic or a relapsed anorexic, but I don't think I'll ever be not anorexic.

So for you to have gone through this obsession so recently and already to be talking to your doctor about it, that's just great. Good for you.
