Hey guys,
I have started doing insanity and i just finished my first workout and was wondering what i should do about my diet
I'm 18 5'8 198 lbs trying to lose weight
I usually eat breakfast at 7:30 am which consists of one day of 2 eggs and brown bread and every other day i eat a bowl of corn flakes with one egg
Then in school I eat an apple and a granola bar at around 12:00 pm
Then when I get home i eat usually half a plate of rice with some gravy with chicken or meat and some days i eat grilled chicken with vegetables
Then sometimes at night I eat the exact same meal as the one above
Can someone please tell me if I need to change my diet to see results?
If not how can I change the diet?
I've considered trying the meal plan that comes with Insanity but I want to see if my routine works
Thank you in advance

You need to eat at a deficit and you don't need to complicate things by following a set ''meal plan''

Agree with the above comment. I'll add that you need to figure out what your body needs(BMR) then go from there in setting your deficit. I can't see your exact calorie amount for the day but I can tell you based on what you posted I eat a hell of lot more than you do at 5'3 and weighing over 60lbs less than you do............0

when i calculated my BMR i got 2674 kcal/day
I feel like thats a bit too much for one day?0 -
That sounds about right for your BMR. I was surprised at how high mine was too.
When I started Insanity I made the mistake of trying to keep to a 1200 calories diet (default low on MFP) and realize looking back I could have put myself in the hospital. Nausea, shaking, weakness, the whole deal.
Insanity is about STRENGTH, not getting scrawny. You are meant to give your body the fuel it needs to build muscle and burn fat and you can't do that on a severe calorie restriction. If you're working AS HARD as you possibly can for your workouts, you WILL need those calories.
I found that it works best for me to have something VERY light for right away in the morning (I'm a fan of the Raw Revolution bars) to take the edge off. Then I do my workout (with plenty of water), THEN I have a more substantial "Second Breakfast" which is usually a protein/fruit smoothie. That way I'm not weighed down going into the workout and have a quick carb burst to power the routine.
Experiment with what works best and like the others have said don't be afraid to deviate from a "set" food schedule. LISTEN to your body. If you're hungry, eat. If you're full, stop.
And feel free to friend me if you like, I'm doing Insanity for the second time right now0 -
Thank you for all the info0

With your stats BMR comes to 2040, not 26740 -
I would highly suggest getting an HRM so you can properly log your insanity workout. then just log it and eat at the MFP set deficit. Don't be too afraid of carbs, you'll need them for energy, and try to eat some clean protein to help your muscles heal.
I owe a lot of the 50+ pounds I've lost to Shaun T. :drinker:0 -
oh okay thanks classic
and I'll go get one asap
can you tell me if all the HRM are the same or are some more accurate than others?0 -
In order to be as accurate as possible they need to take into account your height, age, sex and weight.
Most just take your age, weight and sex. It sounds silly but it does have an impact
Mind you even it's not 100% accurate but it can give you an estimate0 -
I'm doing insanity now on week 3 today and I follow the meal plan as much as I can some days I tweak it its mainly a guide u can go off of and see what you'll be needing to energize and fuel your body I also have a group your welcome to check us out
