How to Manage Weightloss while Traveling for Business

Hi guys - I just wanted to get some of your opinions regarding how I can minimize any negative impacts the upcoming travel I am required to do for my job might have on my continued weight loss journey. I will be flying out to Georgia bright and early tomorrow through Friday (back and forth) until the week of December 15 when I will be spending only weekends at home and the entire work week in Georgia. The hotel I am staying at has a gym so I am not too concerned about workouts.. I am most concerned about food and eating. Is there anything that I can bring with me on the plane to plan ahead? Also, I did find that there is a Trader Joe's about 5 miles away from where I will be so I will definitely be checking that out.

I used to travel for work and the best advise I can give you is just to find any healthy snacks you like to carry on the plane, or in your purse once you're at your destination and when you go out to eat try to stick to meats and veggies, like a salad or steak with steamed broccoli.

I was big on having apples handy and usually stayed at a hotel with a continental breakfast so I would have the scrambled eggs and a yogurt. Also drink lots of water and do try and utilize that gym. :)

I really have a hard time with this one, especially car trips, so it's good you're on a plane! For the plane ride, nuts (but watch the serving size) with dark chocolate (again watch how much), apple slices if you can get them not to turn with sunflower butter to dip it in; baby carrots & dip. That's the plane ride. Oh, and WATER! Big-time water.

For the trip: I make my own oatmeal mixture which you can pack in baggies: a big bowl of old-fashioned oats mixed with sunflower butter and agave nectar; bake at 350 for 8 minutes, stir & bake for 7 more. You can go to T Joe's and get almond milk to put on top of it. Always have fruit on hand, especially grapes or things that you can eat without having to peel or slice. Lots of water. For meals, I'd go with the salad & soup bars and then I do Asian or Mexican for rice & veggies. (Note: I am not a meat eater, so meat is not in it for me; if you eat meat, I guess add meat). If you can find a Whole Foods in addition to the T Joe's, it will help you. There's some good prepared foods, but you need to watch for sauces and extra sodium too.

    Good luck to you! :drinker:

I travel Tue - Thur most weeks. I pack Oatmeal, power bars, protein powder and pick up fruit and yogurt at the airport and keep it in my office or hotel fridge. I tend to eat the same meals from local restaurants and airport restaurants - usually some form of a salad with grilled chicken or grilled salmon. Sometimes I jog to the grocery store and get something from the deli if weather permits.

It's not easy but it can be done!

I would say to invest in some kind of protein bars so that if you're really in a pinch (airplane, stuck in the airport, only have 10 min at lunch before your next meeting) you have something quick you can eat that isn't awful for you. I personally love Quest bars :) Do you know if your hotel room will have a kitchenette type of deal like a Residence Inn? In regards to maintaining normal meals if there's a Trader Joes near you and you have a kitchenette.. prep meals for an entire week ! Good luck!

I travel 10 days each month. Got used to the workouts now even though it's hard with different gyms with different equipments... I travel to uk so I rely a lot on marks and Spencer simply food (something like whole foods?) Prepackaged meals. I have cereal and egg whites in the morning. Usually a small pack of chicken breast or Turkey slices for a snack and some fruit, a cous cous or quinoa salad with salmon or chicken for lunch, some berries and again chicken or Turkey for snack, then room service in the evening which is often fish or steak. The prepackaged meals allow me to plan my caloric and Macro intake for the whole day. Sometimes I bring protein powder But I'm kind of giving up on that as I'm getting enough protein.
  • I travel alot for my job! I used to try to squeeze time in for the gym, but we all know how hard that can be sometimes. My wife got me using fat loss factor! Its super affordable and the results are consistent. Ever since I started using the diet methods and fat burning foods I have been able to stay fit and keep up with my workschedule. I travel all the time for work. Trust me when I say that fast food can easily fit into your macros. Check out my diary.
