so what do you do when the gym owner is a bit stalkish....... I sometimes feel she is stalking me....and looking for things to talk to me about.....ie: How often I work out.....how they look at what I do each time I come in.....is that normal for a club owner to go back and look at tape at what a person does each time they come in.....It isn't like I am hurting anything or anyone. Needless to say I have resorted to only going in when there are no staff hours. However, this has also put a halt to doing personal training. because every time I do this she interrupts me and the personal trainer to talk......I'm sorry but that is not what I am paying this person for. She doesn't care because it is not her personal trainer for the gym.....to which she only has one who I do not feel understands my needs very well if at all (the personal trainer for the gym is the owners family, which great help your family but why not provide other options)
Recently I have heard her talk rudely to other members about stupid things.....ie: moving a poster so that they don't trip over it. (Currently she is running a promotion for body by vi stuff thus huge posters one by the door and one toward the back of the gym.
I have tried to address her gossipy behavior as it pertains to me however, that did not go over well. (more like in one ear and out the other) I really enjoy the gym otherwise....it is a franchise and I have been to a number of them....but this owner is something else.......I am at a lost and not sure what more I can do. There is way more than this that has happened with this owner but, I am looking for some advice here please

Watch her. She will be trying to sell you Shakeology which you do not need. Eat REAL food not powdered goodness knows what is really in it fluff and exericse. Tell her to bugger off, you are busy and paying a trainer and she is wasting your precious dollars... OK say it nicer but it would be P'eeing me off if I was wasting my time and money.0 -
Oh she knows I don't want the crap she is pedalling. In fact she once tried telling me that I wasn't to give my opinion of the product to other individuals0
-
I would no longer use that gym if possible.0
-
she videos you working out and watches the tapes back....? maybe she fancies you?0
-
According to your ticker you've lost 97lb - congratulations! Perhaps she is watching what your doing because she wants to see how you've done it! With more people being aware about the health consequences of carrying too much weight I'm sure gym owners and personal trainers must have seen an increase in the number of people with significant amounts of weight to shift. I can only imagine that she's getting workout ideas for her next 'promotion'!
I would change gyms in this situation. I would hate to feel like I was being watched/timed/questioned from anyone other than the professional I had chosen to specifically employ for the purpose.0 -
Congratulations on your 97 lb weight loss. You are about to lose another hundred and some odd lbs at least by switching gyms. Send a letter detailing her odd behavior to the franchise establishment and demand an end to your contract, a refund, or to switch to a different franchised gym location. She's creepy I don't care what her motives. Some people seriously have NO boundaries I guess? I am currently dealing with a boundariless monster in whole different arena, but yeah those people suck.0

Pretty limited in choices for gyms as i live in a small town.....only other one is non air conditioned with ex termly limited hours due to it being the high school0
-
If a man was doing this, would you be okay with that? How would you react? Creepy is creepy. It's not gender specific.
If somewhere like a gym wanted to video me exercising, then I'd want to know a) why, b) what they're doing with the video, c) whether the footage is going to be stored somewhere (if so, where) or deleted, and other questions along those lines, before giving my permission to be videoed. How do you know she's not uploading them onto the internet or something? Maybe she has a legitimate reason, e.g. wanting to use it to make video ads for the gym, but for something like that, they have to seek permission first, and provide full details. Security videos are a different matter, but she shouldn't be playing them back (if that's what she's doing) to spy on her clients, they're there in case there's an incident, to help the police.
As it's part of a franchise, you could contact the franchise head office and ask them if what she's doing is acceptable (the videoing and all the other issues), because I'm inclined to think that it's not and someone needs to tell her that, and it's not your job as a customer to do that. Also, the franchise head office wouldn't want their company's reputation to be ruined by someone mismanaging a franchise or behaving in an unprofessional way to the clients. My advice would be to first leave the gym, then write to the franchise head office to say why you left, with full details and examples of all the things she did that made you leave. Then join another gym and forget about it, because it's the head office's problem then, not yours.0 -
Ok because members have 24 hour access their r video cameras for security.....however, I was told by her that she watched what I was ddoing one and has told other members about me and what ii do0
-
sounds weird to me, but it also depends on what your workouts are like.
from what i've noticed at every gym i've belonged to, some people seem to really like watching women beasting out at the gym. for instance, i heard you were upstairs doing some wild stuff" :laugh:0 -
hi,
Gym owners are always on the look out for success stories, you've lost a great deal of weight and it maybe the case that she would like to capitalize on your success? I think she's probably bummed that you haven't used her trainers and shakes to get where you are otherwise you'd be up on a poster yourself - promoting her great gym
I wouldn't be scared of her just be extremely satisfied that its all your own doing! love it!0 -
Actually the comments she has made to other members about me is that the cardio I do is not going to produce any results and stated that i should do other things in intervols tthe thing is i have done well and i also have feet problems that prevent me from doing certain things which she doesnt know.0

then kick her *kitten*..
ski mask...leather gloves...lead pipe and get your tabata workout on!0 -
Over here she's crossed so many lines, id be going official! And certainly getting a new gym! Sounds to be she wants to belittle the 'fat' person, you're not a good advertisement for what she wants! Promoting her way is the only way! You break that!0
-
Also i am not scared of her just anoid she seems to think that she knows what is best and if someone express their opinion about her product she becomes rude and unprofessional0
-
lol...OK so yes I am fat however so is she....in fact over this last year i have lost more weight than she has and she has even had the lap band done where i have not thus i dont have the extra tool she does0

I wasn't calling you fat, just putting down what i think is her point of view, which i think she is an idiot!
To be honest id be having it out with her in a calm private manner, if she crosses the line again id calmly but loudly tell her in front of others that I've already asked her not to.... especially pointing out watching me on video and commenting to others about my routine, that is an invasion of privacy, but not sure on how your laws work over there?0 -
I didn't think you were calling me fat but found it funny because she is as well. And knowing i lost more0
-
None of her beahviour is acceptable. You've tried talking to her and she's paid no attention so I think it's time for you to contact head office and talk to them about your concerns. You pay to use the gym and you pay for your trainer and you shouldn't have to put up with her bothering you and wasting your time and money.0
-

May i ask if you two ever got in a heated discussion or screaming match over any of this. This all sounds very very personal of a frenemies almost situation?0 -
dismissing your training while you lose weight, its illogical.. however what to do now, if you cant move gym..
I'd ask your own trainer if he/she could keep an eye out for you and if the owner comes over while in session could they ask her to talk to them post session, if I know trainers - they'll be totally happy to watch your back and more importantly back-up their training methods.
Any comments she makes to others will have to just slide off your back as its coming to you second hand, maybe well meaning people think this information is going to help you? but its gossip and you'll have to think of it that way. I don't know the context she said it to them but if she is holding you up as an example of bad training to the other members, are they really concerned for your welfare to tell you this or is it gossip? Me thinks gossip, albeit well-meaning, but the result is you are getting angry/frustrated and it probably stings you after all the success you are getting by yourself. I would tell any members that really you are not interested in what she has to say at the moment (insert forced smile) so please dont tell you, you've got a great training program that you're following and then ask them how training program is going?, therein you might get an idea of why they are gossiping, maybe they are dissatisfied at they own progress or lack of it.
- edit, it takes me so long to type up, and just read your post saying you've lost more weight then her - its plain jealously0 -
Nope never got into a heated or yelling over this pretty much have been cordial with her. She has tried lecturing me and I did tell her was not a child and intitled to my opinion of body by vi0

This owner doesn't sound like they are in their right mind. I would report this person.0 -
You may be able to do an anonymous complaint with the franchise. Even though she is an owner she needs to follow franchise rules. They really don't want any one gym to soil their name.0
-
I put a posting on corporate's website form.....not with my name but to see what they have to say about this0
