What to do to get focused?

I've been over weight all my life. I don't ever recall being thin. There's been times when I was at a lower weight and felt better about myself, but never thin. Plus over time I always seem to gain the weight back and then some. In 2006 I was up to 318 lbs, and managed to get down to 270 lbs. My Mother passed away at the beginning of 2012, so I expected some possible weight gain due to her loss. However this past Sunday when I weighed I am back up to 301.2 lbs. Now I fluctuate between 298 lbs to my current weight. I seem to eat okay for breakfast and lunch, but dinner I blow it all the time and end up over my calorie count.
I just seem to have that hard time saying NO when it comes to eating. I enjoy some foods that I'll just eat and before I know it I'm feeling guilty that I hate so much. I always seem to give in and have no self control. My mind just ends up saying I'll start tomorrow and of course tomorrow never comes. I'm also an emotional eater and will eat when feeling down or even bored. I'm tired of this weight and would like to get rid of it for life. It seems over eating is my addiction and I just can't get on track.

First of all, my condolences on your Mother passing, that's really tough.
Secondly, when I made the decision to get the weight off for the LAST TIME the one thing that was different from all the other times (like you, I'd been overweight my ENTIRE life) was that I had a strong reason to get the weight off. Without a strong "why", it's hard to stay motivated. Beforehand I dieted simply because I felt I "should" be thin because I was teased growing up and we all know the prejudices against overweight people. This time, however, I feared quite literally for my life. When I thought ahead about my future I only saw the same dismal outcome: dead of a heart attack before I was 40.
I guess it was the right thought at the right time but it scared the BEGEEZUS out of me and I vowed right then and there to do whatever it took, WITHOUT dieting, to get healthier PERMANENTLY.
It took five years to lose 100 lbs (now I'm pregnant so the other 30 lbs will have to wait) but it happened.
I had to not only re-learn how to eat (I had no real idea what healthy food was) but I also had to learn to make fitness a habit (and find workouts I enjoyed) and I especially had to dig deep and understand what got me so overweight in the first place. When you're severely overweight there's always a much deeper issue that needs to be addressed. FIND THAT REASON and do whatever it takes to get through it, even if it means professional help. The weight is a symptom, not an end results.
I could type a novel but I'll spare you! Ha! Feel free to friend me if you'd like some support or to talk about this some more!0 -
Just like with everything else you do in life you have to be READY. And when you are ready you will know it. For years I wanted to quit smoking but I wasn't ready. Then one day I woke up and decided I was done. Just like that. I did the same thing with my weight loss. I had to be ready. And I was for over a year. Then the stress of work caught up to me and I quit caring. Luckily I only gained 7 pounds back but I am not on the road to skinny again.0

Thanks for your responses. I believe that is part of my issue. There is a deeper reason, but I just don't know what it could be. I've had anxiety issues since I was a child, so I don't know if that's it or not. Myself, I'm 41 and I keep thinking of the possibilities of having a heart attack too. I wanted to be down in weight by the time I was 40. I watch The Biggest Loser and see how the trainers talk to the contestants and get them to open up. Once they find the reason why they ended up that way, then they really start losing.0
