Help, I'm Scared to Fail! Ideas?

I have no freaking idea what to do. I'm at the very beginning of this thing, I've done it in the past but recently started 8 days ago back on counting and so far I've lost 5 pounds (started last time back in June 2012 and lost interest). I want this so bad, and I have lost 20 lbs doing it before I even knew about MFP. But I think I want to go further than just eating less and get fit too, just like I'm thinking about going to college for an photography associates degree instead of just being satisfied with good experience but no cred. It's to prove to any future children that I believe in myself and therefore they should as well. It's all in the plan. I'm ready to change my entire lifestyle. I WANT IT!!!!!

Saying that (sorry long winded), what should I do?????? I am so scared I will trigger something somehow in some way and I'll lose this fire I have... I don't want to be this heavy anymore. I want to prove to EVERYONE that I can do it. Will this fire fade away like other ones have in the past? Of course, I haven't been overweight like this very long in the great scheme of my life. Maybe I'm overreacting since there haven't been many tries. I don't know what I was doing 9 days ago and later, the way I was eating myself to happiness. Obesity is not happiness. Being healthy leads to true happiness.

And I hope this website truly helps me to real happiness. I believe in all of you because so far, you all have believed in all of me. So my question is I need ways to keep me going when I feel like I'm losing it, because when that comes, which hasn't yet but I'm sure it will, I want to be armed and ready. I really need this to prove it to the most important person of all... me. What are ways that you are able to kindle the flame when you feel most down?

Add me if you want, I need all the help I can get ladies. Gentlemen, I value your opinions, and want to and will participate in this thread with you, but I hope you can respect that I don't want any male friends on MFP. Just saying I don't feel comfortable about it.

Already added you but I still want to respond.. You have to push through it hun. You can do it and we're all behind you. If you feel stuck or like you want to give up, come on here and talk to me (or any of your other friends). One tip I have is don't think about failing.. Just take it one day at a time.. You'll get there! *hugs*
  • I can relate to what you are saying. You can't fail if you don't try, right? So, I have passed up career opportunities due to fear of failure. I have not attempted exercise because I just figure I will give up so why bother.

If weight loss and fitness is what you want. you can have it. it is hard to stay motivated. It helps me to take it one day at a time. Focus on that day only. Don't get ahead of yourself. If you have an off day--don't give up. Start the next day fresh and keep on track. If you are having many off days. Step back and re-evaluate your plan of attack.

Post everyday if you can. Keep asking for help.

What I've learned through my weight loss/fitness journey this year is that motivation doesn't get you very far. What you need is determination. That way, when the fire or passion fades you still put one foot in front of the other every single day. Keep sight of why you're doing this and just be determined for the rest of your life, in everything you want to accomplish. You can do this!

Determination and new habits! It seems like a lot of people try to start too big, drastically changing their habits by eating totally different and adding a ton of extra exercise. This rarely works, because it's too stressful and your regular life won't fit around it. Make changes one at a time that you can actually follow through with. Get in the habit of following through and keeping your commitments to yourself. Make goals that are action based, rather than the finish line of a goal weight: commit to log everything, take 10,000 steps per day, eat 6 different veggies per day, etc. so that even if you go over on calories, you can keep momentum going and feel accomplished. A big thing for me was to commit to logging everything, even if I totally screwed up my food intake. Even if I had a bad day, I had the small success of honesty and follow through. Build on your first small goals, and you will figure out what the next changes need to be to move forward. Over time, those habits will just be how you live. You can do this!
