If you are in a surplus of energy, you will gain weight.
If you are inactive, that energy will not go towards regenerating muscles - hence stored as fat.

However, if you are on a healthy diet - it is harder to be in an energy surplus.

If you are looking to gain weight and eating too much of anything to do it then you will either put on fat or muscle (well strictly speaking both). It doesn't matter all that much what you eat, it is more about what you are doing day to day.

If you are doing nothing and eating too much food you will put on fat, if you are doing a weights program and are eating too much food you should put on muscle. Of course this is very simplified and you could delve deeper into the amounts of protein and what not you should be consuming to aid you in your muscle gain but simplified says...

short, sweet and to the point.

And I might add, everyone has a different idea of what a "healthy" food is.

I will say that if you go with whole foods and cook it yourself....it will prolly be a lot harder to get fat than it would be heading to the nearest burger joint and downing burgers, fries and a soda.

without working out you will gain fat, if you lift you will gain fat and muscle. The smaller your surplus the less fat you will put on but the slower your muscle gains will be too. It's a catch 22.
