Initially I had pain in my big toe joint when I pushed off, leading me to believe I had turf toe. It actually improved a lot because I iced it regularly and ran less often to let it recover.
However during my past 2 runs, my foot has been in so much pain it literally feels like it's broken (It's only on my right side. I had my shoes fitted at Run On and had my gait analysed and they didn't see any issues there.) The pain encompasses the top my foot, radiating from the toe joint. As soon as I start walking I'm fine, but when I run it's easily an 8 out of 10 on the pain scale.
Is this still turf toe or could it be something else? And is there anything I can do to ease the pain during my runs for the time being? I have a half marathon coming up in 17 days so I can't afford to stay off it right now.

May be it is time to see a podiatrist.
I have a split toenail that, unless bandaged and wrapped, will set off really bad pain across the top of my foot.
If shoe laces are too tight across the bridge of the foot pain across the top of the foot.
Plantar fasciitis typically translates to heel pain, but it can be felt on the side of the foot.
Those are not likely your issues. IMO, best to get some professional advice.
You may hate to miss a race, but a permanent injury could make you miss all races.
Good luck and hope you find a solution.0 -
you might have something broken or bruised. I would see a doc.0

This happened to me and I had X-rays done and it was nothing. Just a pulled muscle, possibly torn, but there wasn't anything the doctor could do to help. It was extremely painful and I had a hard time walking for a couple of days. But a couple weeks without running AT ALL I was fine.0

You say you have a half marathon in 17 days and can't afford to stay off it but you can.
You have done the bulk of your training. You should bea lmost through it and in pretty good shape. If you continue to run on it you may cause more damage. I woudl rest it, at least for a few days. If you have one last long run to do I would just make sure to try to get it in sometime after a few days of rest when it's feeling well and before your taper.
The shorter runs won't do much for you at this point.
Good luck!0 -

I'm having surgery 2 days after my race so this will be my last couple weeks of working out for a while.0 -
Get in to see podiatry as soon as you can! Could be lots on different things. The sooner you get in there and know what's going on the better. Letting it go may only mean you don't finish your marathon.0

You have a foot injury that may be a sign of something serious, and you're going in for surgery on it only 2 days after the marathon because of how bad it is.
To be perfectly honest I think that, in light of these things, still worrying about whether or not you can do the marathon is a sign that you're taking fitness to an unhealthily obsessive level. In any case, the marathon should be the least of your worries right now.0 -
Does it hurt when you are walking or wearing other shoes?
You may check into alternative ways to lace your shoes. I had a lot of pain on the top of my foot that was corrected by changing the way my shoes were laced.
That said, if you're injured or in pain, you need to rest and potentially see your doctor.0 -
I hurt my foot back in early september just by walking...didn't have $ to go to a dr, but my family and nurse/medical school friends all thought it was plantar fasciitis. I had my 2nd 5k (still pretty heavy and new to this weight loss business) to jog and I was so bummed. Truth be told, I still did it. I told myself I wouldn't jog, but I'd walk to do my foot a favor. And then the race started and I couldn't help but jog. You know the funny thing? I did better on the first half than I had ever done. The 2nd half on the other hand...was trouble! I limped back and created some lovely blisters for myself because I was so off balance from the pain. I learned my lesson and borrowed some crutches, a brace, and took it easy. Finally this week I've walked more than a couple miles a day and it doesn't hurt. I still plan to get back on it SLOWLY! After breaking my ankle and having surgery in high school I learned how invaluable your lower body is. If you can't get around, you hate life. My recommendation: take it easy. If you feel like you have to do this marathon, rest your body until then. Yes, you won't run as fast as you might if you train until then...but then again, you will likely not be kicking yourself as much afterward.0
