30 Day Shred VS Insanity

Hello!
I have tried both the 30 Day Shred and Insanity and liked them each for their own reasons.
30DS = I love having all females in the videos, makes it feel more.... private. I also love how quick the videos go by. However, I do not have hand weights, or the option to purchase some for another 2 weeks. I am also watching these videos via YouTube.
Insanity = Shaun T is THE most motivational man I've ever seen in my life. He's fun, but he pushes you. I'm amazed at what my body can actually do when I get in to the program as well. But I've heard you won't see much of a transformation from the videos alone (I've never gotten passed 20 days in!!)

So I'm just interested in hearing what your opinions are on where I should start and COMMIT this time to.

I'm 5'3" 190 lbs and pretty sedentary. I work two jobs, a desk job, and a fast food job, and I'm just finally learning to ween myself from soda.

I've never gotten further than a few days in to 30DS. I just can't get into it for some reason.

I LOVE Insanity. I'm in week 2 of month 2 and am planning another round once I finish this one. I also like how you don't need weights or any extra equipment. I agree with you about Shaun T. He is pretty awesome.

Good luck with whichever workout you choose!

The 30 day shred is so boring... I do it every once in awhile if i just want to do a short work out. As for insanity it is definitely a better work out but was really hard on my knees.

30DS was a stepping stone for me before I did insanity. I definitely prefer the intensity and variety of workouts insanity provides. A lot of ppl only saw results in month 2 but your endurance definitely improved. Take measurements along with your weight ... You may see a drop in inches before weight loss.

To sub weights, you can always use canned items or fill bottles with water or sand and use those in 30 ds

i've also had some experience with videos at home..but i really never stuck to any... My wife and I eventually got a membership to a gym and signed up with a personal trainer.. (it's quite affordable contrary to popular belief and they will work with your budget) With the gym you will get a variety of exercises to target your needs and keep you going.. I know the first time I was with my PT he made me sweat!!... The thing about a gym is that now we feel that we HAVE to stick with it so we don't just throw $$ away... and when we can't make it to the gym.. we do use the videos to supplement our cardio workout at home so we have a variety and it doesn't get boring.. it's important to also get a workout buddy.. to hold you accountable and motivate you.. I can't tell you how many times we both got each other off the couch at the beginning. Hope this helps..

I could never stick to 30DS because it's too repetitive -- it's nice to have such short workouts, but the same thing every-single-day drove me bananas! (Also, it drives me crazy in the video when the girls CHEAT...and then Jillian Michaels makes a comment about how they *don't* cheat and how proud she is!)

With Insanity, I always feel challenged to keep up, and everything is so fast-paced, I never quite memorize the order of all the exercises. (Prediction leads to boredom, I find!) I love that people in the video definitely move at their individual pace, so as I improve at performing the workouts, I can beat them one at a time. (I do get a bit competitive -- I'm gonna get you, Tanya!)

I didn't lose many pounds during my first round of Insanity, but the improvement in my overall strength was monumental, and I lost 1-3 inches off each my chest, waist, and hips -- totally worth it!
