We're hosting two (2) "Baby Boots" aka Marines fresh out of Boot Camp for Thanksgiving who otherwise can't go home for the holiday, and while I have the food situation down pat - I am at a loss as to what to do with them during the day, we have them for the whole day and we don't have Skype, or Cable or any means to take them out to do anything...Suggestions?!?!?!

    Talk to them.
    Treat them like family.
If you can, get internet and skype before they get there. Let them skyp their families.

    I see you have kids?
All go outside and play a game of football...or depending on the weather, sledding.

    Watch football
    Take a nap

Before they get there, ask them what their families usually do, try to replicate that the best you can.

Most of all, thank you for doing this.

Cards, board games. Do you have Internet? You could always watch a movie or something through that.

They will probably just be happy to be away from their DI and the chow hall food.

Maybe rent some newer movies that they haven't had a chance to watch. My husband is a Marine and says he would have been happy to just hang out somewhere other than boot camp. If you have Internet they could always email or possibly chat online with family. I'm sure they will just be appreciative to be there.

Oh well that's very cool never heard of this program. If you have internet shouldn't be difficult to get Skype, correct just download it for them? I think you just treat them like family, cook some good hot food, and nice conversation.

Sounds like your T-day will be very full lots to be thankful for...enjoy

My brother was in boot camp over Thanksgiving a few years ago. A family hosted him. Thank you, thank you for doing this!! :flowerforyou: It will mean much to their families. If you have internet, you can easily get Skype. I bet they would like to do anything that the rest of the world considers normal. They may like to just sit and do nothing for a day to recuperate from all of the work they have been doing. They will probably welcome boredom!

That's what I am hoping they'll be content to chill, maybe call their families or Skype/Facebook, etc...watch a movie and relax.

We are very excited to be doing this and I am very pleased that a coffee shop in town organized the whole thing with a local training camp! It's going to be exciting, and fun for the kids!

It will be our pleasure to have these young Men in our home!

Around here it'll probably be warm enough for some football in the backyard, not cold enough for sledding, we rarely see snow ;-)

I had thought about asking them about their traditions and see what we can replicate so we can help them feel more at home.

It's our pleasure to do this, we tried last year and were unable to host because they had more families than Marines so we got first dibs this year!

Alright wanted to give an update!

Our wonderful guests enjoyed a day of eating snacks, dinner, and just hanging out with the family - they were definitely chatty that's for sure LOL!!! Talked our ears off all day, loved every single second of hearing about their families/traditions and what they were thankful for yesterday.

They were more than ok with not going anywhere, or doing anything special, they spent most of the afternoon playing Skip Bo (card game) with my husband and daughter in our living room.

It was a special day for everyone involved and they just kept telling us Thanks for having them, thanks for the good food and company. They thought they were being brought to Wilmington to sit down in a huge mess hall and families would come sit with them but they were pleasantly surprised to find out they were going to come into our homes to join us for a home cooked meal! It was Awesome!
