Just starting my journey to get healthy!

It's super early but I can't sleep anymore, that's something I need to fix. Anyways, My name is Jenna, and I am, super overweight and unhealthy so I'm trying to change that. I'm going vegetarian and limiting my self to 1700 calories a day. I'm also monitoring my iron intake and taking a supplement when I don't hit my goal of a certain amount per day. I also struggle with depression and several body image issues that I'm hoping getting healthy will help with.

    Hi!
Based on your ticker, we have a similar amount of weight to lose. I also struggle with depression and body issues. From past experience, exercising and being active have helped with my depression, so I'm trying to use that as my motivation.
  • That's wonderful! The motivation I mean. Right now I'm trying to decide what to have for breakfast. Ideas?

Hi Jenna! Welcome to MFP! :)

Good luck on your weight loss journey to becoming a fitter, healthier you!

For breakfast you could try greek yogurt with low cal cereal, oatmeal with blueberries, whole wheat toast with peanut butter and bananas on top (i personally love this!). berry smoothies , a wholewheat roll with scrambled eggs, low fat muffins and a wedge of cantaloupe..... :)

Welcome. A couple of thoughts for you, 1) dont take on too much all at once. 2) if you are switching to a vegetarian diet for reasons other than health, thats fine, but it it not necessary for a healthy lifestyle 3) read everything 4) ignore most of what you read. 5) log everything. 6) measure your food, weigh your food.

I am a vegetarian (and while you will see meat items in my diary its only because I am a lazy logger at times and after a year of logging I am pretty good at allowing turkey sausage on my diary as a sub for veggie sausage if I cant take the time to find the exact item*) you are welcome to check out my diary for ideas.

Breakfast, kashi and almond milk. Dave's killer bread thins (60 cals a slice) and peanut butter. I eat the same thing almost everyday, sauteed vegetables, egg, egg whites.

*sadly I have to add this caveat because forum trolls get their panties bunched

    Good luck, take it slow.
  • Thanks for all the advice everyone! I decided today I'd just go with eggs mixed with smartlife's smart ground stuff. tastes really good! I did the vegetarian diet before and for some reason It just keeps me fuller and tastes loads better.
