Why is it that I feel 1lb/week isn't worth the effort of weightloss, but 2lbs a week is? At least to me. I was looking at my weekly calories. Without figuring my food for tomorrow I am over 3500 calories under my goal. Which means--I could be eating a lot more every week and still lose weight--just significantly less than I have been losing. Maybe I'm mental. For some reason 1lb loss/week isn't worth all the weighing and counting, but 2lbs is...but really 1lb a week IS good and it is better than the alternative--gaining weight. Why do I have to push myself to lose 2, and feel like a failure if it is less than 2?

I don't know. Your thinking is different from mine. On my profile it says"losing it one pound at a time" I am ok with that. I feel two lbs a week would be more of a struggle so more likely to give up. I didn't gain my weight overnight. So I don't expect to lose it over night. Do what works for you now and long term.0

I'd have to agree with mygrl4meee; personally what I love about MFP is that it is not a diet, not a fad. You don't have to totally struggle with a change in your life, you just cut back little by little and start making small, but better choices. And over time you see the results. It really helped me when I lost 30 pounds to measure my progress by months, not weeks. I took photos every month and posted my weights.
In fact, I'm currently set at losing .5lbs/week. Since this is so achievable, I often find myself doing better than that and the success really motivates me.
I think everyone is different though. Some people don't weigh-in everyday because they don't want to focus on the daily fluctuation in the number, others like tracking their daily weight to monitor and understand the changes. Whatever works for you is key.
If 2lbs/week is working for you and you don't feel like you are starving or sacrificing, then by all means - go for it! If not, then 1lb/week is a pretty sweet deal, too. Either way, your future self will thank you for it, and time will pass before you know it. 6 months from now you'll be looking back and so happy with the 24 pounds you lost, and you won't care how you got there, just that you are there
And we'll all be here rooting for you every .5, 1 or 2lbs along the way0 -
I started on MFP in Sept. 2012 with a goal to lose only a half-pound per week. No deadline. No pressure.
Ninety-nine percent of the time I don't feel deprived, because I've made it easy on myself. Fourteen months later I am almost at goal.
My longest plateau so far has been 48 days. I felt impatient, but not discouraged. Being this close to goal (and at an "ideal" body fat percentage for a woman my age), I foresee more plateaus; but that's okay. I'll get there when I get there. My average weekly weight loss is actually three-quarters of a pound per week.
I've been a lifelong yo-yo. I've lost weight quickly and too quickly. I've done "diets."
All hard work aside, losing weight for me is the easy part. My real challenge will be maintaining. To do that, I need to eat in a healthy and, above all, sustainable manner. That's why taking the weight off slowly has been so important to me. That's how I will finally win this game.0 -
because 1-2 lbs isn't 100% fat. Weight loss =/= Fat loss0
