Losing weight faster than planned - opintion wanted

I have just restarted my goal of eating healthier and slimming down (quite a bit) and I wanted to start slow. My initial goals were to be consistant with logging and to begin to eat better. I set my profile to sedentary (I work in an office) and lose 1 pound per week. I log all my exercise seperately because exercise is hit or miss right now.

In the 3 weeks I have been logging again, I am losing between 1.5 and 2 lb per week. I have been staying in the plus or minus 150 calories of target so far. To actually only lose 1 lb per week, do you think I should change to light activity daily, change the goal to 0.5 pounds per week or leave the setting where they are and just eat closer to my "maintenance" calories? Or do you think that if I leave everything where it is, I will drift towards only losing 1 lb per week as I get further into my new eating program?

Don't get carried away. These are "noobie losses" (no disrespect!). It's common in the first few weeks to lose a lot of weight - it's mostly water caused by the readjustment of your glycogen stores as you change to a calorie-deficit diet.

You'll soon slow down and will be yearning for the big loss weeks!

Actually no, I won't yearn for the "big" losses. I know from my past behavior, if it is not a bit of a challenge I will stop working at it. It is if a part of my brain says "if it is not hard it is not worth the effort to do it". The first time around (about 5 years ago) I fell of the weight loss wagon because the weight was coming of to "easily". A platau (spelling?) saved my weight loss goals.

I would do what your doing for a while longer because weight loss will slow down as you lose.

I concur about staying with what you're doing for a while. I dropped the first 12 pounds much more quickly than the numbers should indicate, then "stuck" for a while before starting down again. But also be aware that you might be more active than you think. I also thought I was sedentary. It was only when I started wearing a Fitbit that I discovered that my normal routine at work and home is fairly active versus MFP's definition.

It sounds like you're more into some perceived challenge than actually losing the excess weight. If so, then try to micromanage it so you lose <1 lb./week. If not, keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the progress. Maintaining is a whole new challenge. That should keep your brain interested.
