Advice on low sodium salt

Options
Does anyone have any opinion on low sodium salt? It replaces so much of the sodium chloride for potassium chloride, so I thought it would be great when on a low calorie diet where it can be tricky to balance Na and K intake. However, on the packet it has warnings which suggest it is bad for the kidneys (where no warning is on the normal salt).

If you start eating a low sodium diet for a while, your taste buds will change, and you could forgo the salt or salt substitutes entirely. Food will taste good without it. It only takes about a week and a half to switch your taste buds over.

It's not tricky to balance intake with a balanced, healthy diet. Potassium deficiencies are rare. Food databases often lack info on potassium, so don't worry if you come up short in K in your food log.

As far as a low-sodium diet, most studies are saying that it's not necessary.. unless your doctor specifically recommends it to you.

If you have any heart or kidney problems, or take prescription meds, ask your doctor before taking KCl.
