Hi guys

I've been reading up on all of this BMR, TDEE and calorie deficit and i'm totally lost. So much so my brain hurts! I'm not totally new to exercise. I used to do Zumba and the gym and I've tried all the fad diets and what not and none of them have worked. However I've never done exercise/dieting as in depth as this although I'm now more determined than I have ever been. I plugged in my numbers to one of these online calculators and think I've managed to confuse myself even more. Can someone kindly explain to me all of this terminology and how it actually works

these are my numbers

BMI: 38.8

BMR: 1770

TDEE: 2434

thanks
x

    In simple terms:

BMR: The number of calories your body uses just to stay alive i.e. breathing etc...

TDEE: Your BMR + calories allocated for daily activity. Essentially your maintenance number.

To lose weight you could either:

Take your TDEE number and minus 10-20% depending on the rate you want to lose OR you could punch your numbers in to MFP and let them work it out for you.

The key difference between the TDEE method and the MFP method is with MFP you eat back the calories you earn by exercising, with TDEE you don't because they're already included in the number it gives you.

    Hope that helped a little.
