Resizing rings

It's a nice NSV that my wedding rings and diamond anniversary ring are practically falling off my fingers, and I will probably have to stop wearing them soon if I don't get them resized. However, I'm only halfway to my goal so my fingers should still get smaller. I just can't decide if I should get them resized now, or wait until I'm closer to my final destination. Is it expensive to get them made smaller? I'd love to hear what others have done, or ideas, or opinions about this....

  • Wait on the resizing. Just wear a cheap ring that's slightly smaller on the outside so your wedding ring doesn't slip off.

Wait until you're at goal. It's likely you'll have to get them resized again. I've only lost 12 pounds, and I had to get my ring sized down a whole size! I'm lucky mine has a warrantee, so it doesn't cost me anything. I've just been wearing my wedding band instead of my engagement ring. It still shows I'm married while the engagement ring is getting fixed. :-)

I got my ring resized too soon (my fiancé proposed while I was pregnant and I dropped a lot of water weight after our daughter was born). Now I need to wait until I am at my goal. I have a plan with it so I can get it resized without cost but it does make the metal brittle the more it is done.

Different fingers are different sizes. If you are right handed, the fingers on the right hand will be a bit larger (being more muscular). So as you lose weight move rings from left ring finger, to right ring finger, to left middle finger, and finally right middle finger. I am currently wearing my engagement ring on my right middle finger.

I will re-size when I am at goal weight.

When re-sizing, consider using the solution used for people with big knuckles but skinny fingers. This is wear they solder little balls inside the ring, instead changing the actual shank size. It has the advantage of putting less strain on the ring. It can be done for ornate shanks (ie micropave eternity rings) that can't be re-sized conventionally. The balls can also be removed in case you gain weight again.

Wait-it's $30 here to resize one ring. Also, I'd wait several months after you've hit your goal weight to re-size, because your body will continue to change even when you're no longer losing weight.

I'd wait on the resizing. I just recently dropped some rings off at Belk to have them resized and it's costing me $25 each, no matter how many sizes they need to go down.

Oh, so glad I'm not the only one. I had to have mine done twice. And honestly, could probably use another reduction but it is expensive!

I recommend getting a ring adjuster inserted in your ring. Any jeweler can do it. Just a little piece of metal that makes in smaller while you're losing.

I waited too long and destroyed my wedding band in the nutri bullet 2 weeks ago.
  • yeah it definitely happens. try those plastic ring snuggy things. works pretty good until you get down to your goal weight and can get it fixed once.

I like this idea. And who says the "stopper ring" has to be cheap? Go for more bling!!

I have the same issue with my wedding band. I wrapped a little tape around a part of it and it stays on now. It's not the prettiest solution, but it works.

That is a great NSV! I have lost over 50 pounds and my rings haven't really loosened up at all! They must have been choking my finger and I didn't realize it :-) ! Could you purchase those little things that snap on there until you get to goal?

I bought some inexpensive rings on ebay to wear. Later, once I get my wedding rings resized, I can just wear these on my other hand.

Now that I'm within a few lbs of my goal weight I'll be resizing my rings very soon. I didn't want to do it before that though.

I need to get mine resized too. Funny thing, i weighed in this morning at the same weight i was when we got married. They fit then, and I didn't notice them being tight when I was heavier, but they are definitely too loose now.

I would wait. My rings were two tight on me when I was at my heaviest and I am about 8 lbs from my goal weight and they finally fit me now. I almost got them resized and I'm sure glad I didn't.
