On a mission

Hi! I am new to the community. I'm a 43 y.o. fella. I married (20 years! Yup!) with 5 children (2 boys, 3 girls) I have two in college, one about to graduate, a sophomore and a 7th grader. Everyone is at home. I love my family dearly, which is why I am on a mission to defeat diabetes once and for all. I want to be around for all of the memories we are about to make. I have endured the loss of 6 family member to diabetes. I have anguished at the passign of 3 close friends due to diabetic complications. I REFUSE to go out because of it. I was diagnosed in 2003. It wasn't until this year that I said "ENOUGH". I am TIRED oftaking medication. I am TIRED of the symptoms. I am TIRED of living in fear over it. So I am on a quest to get rid of the fat, overhaul my diet, stay consistent in exercise and to turn this thing around once and for all. Any support would be greatly appreciated. I am here for YOU as well. We're all in this fight together. Our reasons may vary, but we fight nonetheless.

Thanks!

Hi - I admire your amibition to take control of your health and ultimately that is what we are all trying to do by losing the extra pounds that burden us and keep us at risk. I personally do not have diabetes but my granny died from a terrible infection that started in her foot that led to gangreen. The day they were taking her into surgery to amputate, she had a massive heart attack and I truly believe she willed herself to die because she begged her doctor to not let them take her foot off but knew what was going to happen. She fought diabetes for most of her life. My father, now 71, was diagnosed with diabetes 6 months and it has scared him to death. His doctors told him they would give him 6 months to try to control it with diet but it he they would have to start insulin shots. I am proud to say that my dad has stepped up to the plate and has done everything his doctor has told him to do and is faithful to his health. He has lost a total of 45 pounds and has broken his "sugar" habit.

I am blessed to not have any health issues at this time but I am smart enough to know that if I don't gain control over my weight and poor choices now, I will have them. This is not an easy journey and unfortunately the older we get, the harder it gets.

I want to wish you the best on your journey and to encourage you to stay positive, make reminder notes to yourself why you are doing this...why you need to do this and then just take one day at a time!
