So they have a sauna at the gym I joined. Was curious if anyone uses a sauna to aid with their weight loss? If so how often and how much time do you spend in the sauna? Thanks in advance

I use a sauna at the gym but not exactly for weight loss. For me it's a treat - as in "OK great workout, now I get a long hot shower followed by some time in a hot sauna and no kids banging on the door!" So I guess you could say it's motivation for me.0

Sauna use will not help you lose weight. You will sweat, so you may lose a bit of water weight, but being in the hot and humid doesn't make you burn fat while you're just sitting there.
That said, saunas are amazing after a hard workout, enjoy it!0 -
Infrared Saunas are great, you actually do burn calories from just sitting there.
Half an hour you can burn up to or more than 300 calories. You will sweat like crazy but totally awesome for you and great way of cleansing and detoxifying.
"Far Infrared energy is not only safe, and is as evident, can be very pleasurable and relaxing, but can be highly beneficial for our bodies. Far Infrared sources are actively used for medical treatments by doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, and massage therapists for arthritis, joint pain, stiff muscles, and injuries to tendons and ligaments to promote a faster self-healing effect by the body. Regular use of a sauna may be effective as an adjunct to methods such as regular exercise for cardiovascular conditioning and burning of calories. An infrared sauna induces relaxation and a feeling of well-being in a person that can have significant psychological as well as physiological benefits."0 -
No sauna, infrared or otherwise causes you to lose anything but water weight. It's relaxing, and can easy muscle and joint pain (I have a torn ligament in my shoulder and it loves heat) but it isn't a weight loss technique regardless of the salesmen that will tell you how many calories it burns.0

A sauna does not help with weight loss, but it sure feels good. I have not been in one for quite some time.
The secret to weight loss is to eat at a calorie deficit.0 -

Only in the fact that it's usually promoted as burning way more calories than regular yoga because it's done in a hot room. Yoga is great, being hot is good for flexibility but the extra calorie burn from the heat would be minimal.0 -

No.
eta: all that a sauna will do is make you lose water weight (sweating), and possibly relax you. Good, but not significant in terms of overall weight loss0 -
