Yep.. I'm asking this question SERIOUSLY

How the HECK do I calculate grams per serving?! Call me an idiot, but I seriously can't figure this out. I know that on most food labels it will provide the information, but I'm logging a five day food journal for nutrition class and can't figure out how to do it on my own. I'm trying to figure out the grams per serving in one leaf of romaine lettuce. I've googled this and have found the nutritional information on each website... yet they fail to add the grams per serving. My food diary (that we use on a different website mind you--not myfitnesspal) won't allow me to add a food unless I add a grams per serving and I seriously can't figure out how.

I don't have a food scale or romaine lettuce, so....

Anyone know how to do this?

Google "how many grams in an ounce" then do the math and convert.

If I understand the question, you need to know how many grams are in one serving size of (in this case) romaine lettuce. When you found the nutrition information on line, did it give you ounces per serving? If so, just convert ounces to grams.

I don't have a food scale either, so I just estimate from the package. If the package contains 10 servings then I just mentally estimate how much of it I have taken and go from there. For instance, romaine (I just looked it up) for 2 cups (85 grams (about 3 oz)) is about 15 calories. The package that I have in the fridge is 12 oz. So if I take 1/4 of it then I've used a serving.
    I'm not sure this helps...

I wouldn't recommend mentally calculating food until you're used to what the food actually weighs. For example, I can eyeball 15g of peanut butter easily because I've weight 15g of peanut butter so many times. I recommend you just buy a kitchen scale, they're cheap and invaluable for calorie counting.
