New Years Resolution

Making a New Years Resolution is similar to the mindset of "I'll start on Monday". Failure waiting to happen.
Yeah, my wife said the same thing last January.
This year has been the best "failure" ever.
While having goals and having the discipline to follow through with them are surely two different things - no one accomplishes anything by refusing to set goals. And there's nothing wrong with goals that have a start date.0 -
just curious, did you give each item up for that month only...or was it cummulative?
Gave them up JUST for that month. I didn't feel it was realistic of me to give them up forever.
How on earth does that make sense? Cutting out one thing for one month, ok, great, so you're a little bit healthier for thirty days. Then you go back to your old eating habits? Hello, Terrible Idea, I'd like to introduce you to Yo-Yo Diet. I think you two will hit it off nicely.
I stead of cutting out something ENTIRELY for a whole month and then nonsensically going back to it, why not try cutting back on bad habits like for forever?
This. And why wait until January 1st? I don't understand setting goals with a start date in the future. No time like the present to become a healthier you.0 -
I honestly don't know why I'm catching so much flack over this. I don't necessarily think that what I described is a "yo-yo" diet. Since August 1st I have been counting calories. Today I'm counting calories, tomorrow, and the next day, and the next month, and next year--I WILL BE COUNTING CALORIES. These are just mini goals INSIDE of a bigger goal. I don't see what the harm is in saying "This month I'm only have natural sweets like fruits instead of candy canes/pudding/etc". Like someone said earlier--sometimes when you cut out your guilty pleasure you find you don't really need it. Since last January when I cut out Fast Food for that month--I pretty much found that I could make better choices and fast choices without going that route. I don't think of this as a diet. It is just a goal within a goal.0

Resolutions Don't Work. But hey, the gym and diet industry loves you guys
yeah but i dont.
takin up all the space in the gym til like february. ugh.
Exactly. January is the one month that I try NOT to go to the gym. At home and outside exercising until the crowds die down.
Years ago for Lent, I gave up chips and pop and since then I have had no desire to drink pop again. Chips, however, I still (try to)eat in moderation. Some "treats" you just don't miss after you've gone a month without them.
My son in law calls them the "broccoli eaters". He does most of the grocery shopping and he swears he can never get any broccoli in January because all the resolutionists are buying it on their way home from the gym.0 -

I guess (speaking for myself only), I just don't get the point. Then again, I don't see the point in most diet challenges, like Advocare 24 day challenge, 40 day juice challenge, 10-day detox, or whatever. What's the point in restricting yourself if it's only for a limited time? I'm not criticizing it as much as I just don't understand it.
But I stick to what I said earlier about goals and New Year's resolutions. Why wait for a day to start when you can start today?0 -
Give up artificial sweeteners. wish i had the courage!0

Omg! That is a super good idea! It would be so tough, but that is the point of this. This is my test to myself that I can give up something. I'm putting that on the list. Whoo-hoo!0 -
I love diet soda - that would be the hardest for me. I keep toying with the idea because people say that after a month or so your taste buds change back to how they are supposed to be and everything will taste better.0
