Fat Burners - are they necessary? Any recommendations?

Hi there,
I am by no means an expert on supplements and was hoping for some advice.
I was chatting with a friend the other day and she mentioned she takes a fat burner pre workout and a protein shake post workout. I currently have a protein shake most days but had never thought to use a fat burner, I guess I never really noticed them or thought they were all a gimmick? You know those tablets you see in the chemist! We got talking and she explained it was a powder and not like those horrible tablets at all. I have been doing some research and am coming up with a lot of conflicting advice.
So...good people of MFP, do you recommend a fat burner, if so which one. Or should I just steer clear and stick to what I am doing?
Thanks

IMO waste of money, just drink a coffee and it will be about the same
If you do, however have any spare money to throw out the window I could use some extra here :laugh:0 -

Hhaha, this was I was expecting to hear. The money thing is what gets me too! I guess I always thought it was a waste of money too so never tried them. It's like $80 for a teeny tiny tub of supposed ' miracle' powder, if it is such a miracle why are we all not using it?! I think your answer has confirmed it for me, not going to buy any, it doesn't seem worth it.0 -
A lot of the fat burners work by raising your body temperature or acting as a stimulant. Not the best thing to be ingesting in my opinion. Actually OxyElite Pro, which was one of the more popular ones was recently pulled from the market on order of the FDA since it was linked to liver failure in a number of people. Better to focus on eating right and working out. Cheaper that way too.0
