So originally was working with a nutritionist and planned on eating my assigned meal plan..no questions asked. Well..last Wed at 11:48 pm I got a call from my brother and my father suddenly and tragically died. No warning, nothing. He just died. And grief has hit me hard...real hard. Barely ate 700 cals Thurs-Sun, then yest got so dizzy and chest hurt so decided may be best to increase intake (plus getting threatened with hospital) so increased to 1200 cals. Gained lb overnight last night and freaked, but still aiming for close to 1200 today. Not sure if I can handle if wt jumps again tom (I have ED history) especially when I had started losing on my meal plan that was 1800-2000 calories last week. Hoping didn't **** metabolism past few days.

Anyway, still have no appetite, still grieving, but know dad would have wanted me to still run my 5k on thursday. So my question is...is it really that crucial to reach 1200 tomorrow? I know it's twisted but not ready to get back to large meal plan that is 1800-2000 cals until I lose a little wt because know my wt will shoot up. BUT don't want to compromise my 5k. So what should I do?

I think you might want to go back to working with a registered dietitian and seeking professional psychiatric help (if you aren't already).

Sorry for your loss and I think you need way more than 1200 cals...especially if you are training for a 5k.

You should grieve the loss of your father. Whatever that means for you. 5k's and cal goal strictness can wait. If you choose to participate do so lightly and the same goes for your cal goals. Make your cal goal target quite wide to compensate for all the different feelings you will go through at time like this. Make a written list of your priorities and magnet it onto your fridge because the kinds of emotions you are about to go through will pull your will and thought process in wildly different directions for a bit and that list might serve as an anchor for you. Hope this helps. :flowerforyou: I'm sorry for your loss.

^ I like all of the advice above me. I will add that participating in the 5k may be a way to get your mind off of things for a little while, but if you haven't been eating, perhaps consider just walking it. I'm sure there will be many walkers tomorrow and you'll fit right in.

    Best wishes

Take care of yourself. Running is cathartic and a wonderfiul way to get into your thoughts and think about your father but, if you are not up to eating properly then don't run or figure our how to eat right. My suggestion is to eat well the day before and eat a nice but not heavy breakfast the day of the race. If you don't feel up to it don't do it. If you do, dedicate the run/walk to him. There is no wrong or right here. So sorry for your loss.

    I second all of this.

Also, like Joy said, maybe make an appointment with whichever doctor is helping with your recovery. I'm sorry for your loss. :frown:

Wow, you have a very long break!

I'm so sorry for your loss, I know how much it sucks.
I lost my grandfather earlier this year and had issues eating that day.
I went to the gym to get my mind off of everything and had the best workout.

But with your history of ED, maybe the 5k isn't for the best right now since you haven't eaten much and you'll be putting your body through even more strain.
