HEMP OR PEA PROTEIN. TASTE

.. just a quick one, has anyone tried hemp or pea protein, and are they as bad as they are made out to be? "grassy" "muddy" etc?
thinking of switching due to health benefits. Put off by the idea of the taste, so seeking Real Peoples thoughts on the stuff!!

cheers :)

I bought some vegan protein powder that was on offer, I managed to get it down but only just. Being chocolate flavour helped. http://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/vegan-blend/10637445.html

    Only suitable for vegans IMHO.

I bought some hemp protein to try...tasted like a hay field.
    I'm sure it's fine if you're a ruminant .
    I'll stick with whey.

I can gag down hemp protein plain in water, which is more than I can say for whey. Not that I do that any more, because I find it tastes a lot better with chocolate almond milk and a ton of frozen raspberries.

Pea Protein doesnt have an overly great taste, only because the taste itself isnt that strong

Having said that - its GREAT to bake into things, or mix into other foods as you can heat it without it denaturing

Also - you can add flavourings to it. Theres a brand here in Aus called Vitarium that makes sugar free and basically cal free flavourings (supposedly for kids milk) that use the natural sweetener stevia. I have mixed them into the pea protein before and its actually pretty nice :)

I also bake pea protein into protein muffins and bars for my bf, or just use it instead or flour in nearly any recipe for him :)

I use Nutiva- Hemp Protein Shake, and I was happy with it. I went back to Whey b/c of cost. Also, I needed a better source of protein for my heavy lifting. The Hemp protein was just a little too low to meet my protein needs for muscle recovery.
