knock knee problems, help!

Options
So I have always had slight knock knees. My legs are slightly misaligned and because of this I have inadequate muscle tone in areas that I need to be strong. I also lock my knees back when standing which causes knee pain ( im working on that). I really want to correct this problem. I know I can’t change my knees but I keep reading that people with Knocked Knees should not be running but focusing on strengthen your knees. I have noticed that my calves and thighs have gotten bigger / muscular but my knees have not making me look even more knocked kneed (eww) how can I fix this? Im noticing doing squats really hurts my left knee but only for a couple hours after. By morning the pain is gone. Its really my outer knee that needs more toning. As of right now I hate how my legs look.. if it helps, I do cardio and strength training 5 days a week for an hour and half. ( run for about 30-40mins then strength trainng) my quads are toned and it makes the knock knees look even worse.
