Calories in a day versus BMR

According to the APP I need to consume 1200 calories. When I checked my BMR it says 1762...which should I listen to?

Your BMR is 1762? (not your TDEE) then I'd eat above that.
  • Not sure what TEED means? I'm new to the abbreviations.
  • I used the BMR tab on this site.

BMR - Basic Metabolic Rate. The bare minimum you need to survive, before you even get out of bed.

TDEE - Total Daily Energy Expenditure. The amount of calories on average you actually use up each day.

Eat somewhere between these numbers, and you'll lose weight safely.

But treat all number calcualtions with caution, they're only approximations.

Eat at least your BMR. Your profile says you have PCOS and a lot of women have greater success losing by limiting their carbs.

^^THIS^^ Consider lowering your carbs and choosing slower carbs (lower on the glycemic index) because of your PCOS. There are lots of supportive women with PCOS here.
  • Thanks. One more question. When you set your goals and level of activity does working out count? I workout 4 - 5 times a week otherwise I'm home or at school so that's the only real activity I get.

Your activity level would be sedentary and you add your exercise separately as you do it.
  • Okay thank you.

MFP does not include exercise calories in your daily allowance until you actually exercise. That is why when you log your exercise the calories you are supposed to eat goes up.
