In January, there will be tons of people selling equipment cheap on ebay similar websites...

People always purchase these things thinking that they'll make a 100% lifestyle turn around with their New years resolution...

2 weeks later and the equipment they got is just in the way, gathering dust.

For belts I've read that Inzer is very good. Elitefts.com and Roguefitness.com are good sites for weightlifting equipment. For gloves, I'd tell her husband to grow a pair and work on his grip.

Personally, I've used Valeo belts for years and IF I need to use gloves (usually on the heaviest curls when my calluses haven't been shaved off in awhile) I use gloves that just pad the palm. I hate using gloves though and prefer to "feel" the bar.

The Argos reference leads me to assume you're uk based. I'm at work now, but will send some links later.

Gloves serve no real purpose - they look cool, but they weaken your grip.

If your friend is new to lifting, a belt is probably unnecessary too; although you see some people with them on all the time, they're really only of benefit to people with back issues, or advanced power/weightlifters.

If you're sure about the belt being necessary, RDX make some good ones. Inzer is hard to get hold of in the UK. The main thing to look for IMO is high quality leather and a strong closure, with the width of the belt at the front and back being specific to your training.
