Low dosage of seroquel: weight gain?

Hey...

My pdoc has got me trialling seroquel xr to help with my sleeping issues. She has got me trying 50mg at first then wants me to try 25mg. Last night was the first time I took it and I slept so well, I didn't wake up with a "seroquel hangover" and I actually feel like I want to do something, like go train which I don't usually feel like doing. My biggest concern is weight gain. I can manage the appetite increase if that becomes an issue. She told me that no matter how much or how little I eat, that I will gain weight on seroquel. But I'm also aware that her patients probably don't calorie track.

I was wondering what people's experiences were with this drug, preferably at a lower dose. I have had a friend who lost weight on this drug

Weight gain is extremely common with seroquel, but you will sleep like a baby at night. Just keep an eye on your appetite, because there is a very good chance that it will grow. As long as you get ahead of it, you should be fine. I used to take it for sleep, and my problem was night snacking because it triggered my sleepwalking sometimes.

I think that if you are getting better sleep, logically you will have more energy/motivation to work out and track your calories. So I don't see why you would gain if you keep with it.

I was taking the same thing for sleeping issues when I had severe depression. I was fat back then.....maybe a correlation? Or maybe just me eating my feelings.....but it's been over 5 years since I've last taken any sort of medication relating to depression and I don't feel the need to go back to any of that. I didn't really like seroquel too much. I would take it, then barely be able to get up the stairs to my room to go to sleep.
