Watching What I Eat.

I don't diet. I changed the way I eat for life. But I had help. As a
student of nutrition for a couple years, and then working as a
ghostwriter for a nutritionist, I really learned a lot about healthy
eating. Of course, even knowledge can't always make you change.
Going Gluten Free
That was my first step. I was having stomach issues, and per a friend
of a friend, I made the choice to cut out gluten. What an amazing
thing that has been. My stomach issues, though not all gone, are over
75% non-existent. For weight loss purposes, I chose to limit the
amount of GF bread and pasta I eat, as they tend to contain more
calories than their gluten filled counterparts.
EFT and Hypnosis
I used alternative therapies to help cut my snacking. I tried hypnosis
first, but it didn't work. Then I found out about EFT for Weight Loss.
Sandy at Eat Like a Goddess became my EFT Mentor and taught me how to
use tapping to remove emotional barriers that were causing me to
snack.
Portions
My boss the nutritionist didn't believe in portions. He believed that
if you ate the right foods (mainly fruits, vegetables and whole grain)
you don't need to watch how much you eat. However, I am a meat eater.
I like it and I don't want to stop. So I make sure to follow portions
for those foods that need to be portioned for proper health and
wellness. What do you do to stay healthy and eat right?

So you spent a lot of time studying nutrition and believed that portion control was irrelevant because some "nutritionist" told you so? I'm sorry but you need to go back to the drawing board and learn something else.

I eat all the foods I like, while being mindful of my nutritional requirements (macro & micro), that's it.0

I stay within my calorie limits and meet my macronutrients. That's it.0
-
I count my calories and try to hit my macros.
I don't understand why you're coming on a calorie counting website and saying that counting calories isn't worth it.0 -
I eat whatever I want making sure that I reach my macro/micro nutrient daily needs and not exceed my calorie intake with the exception of a few occasions in the year.

I do IIFYM. I make sure I hit my macros, I make sure to get enough vitamins and minerals and I don't go over my calorie goal. I have lost 127lbs so far.
I don't have a gluten intolerance so there is no need for me to cut it out.0 -
Glad you found what's working for you. Congrats! Keep it up! And you're right, living without gluten isn't all that hard, and if you do, it does seem better to limit the GF replacement foods, which are mostly crap.
I limit(ed) a few things (white flour, sugar and beer) and try to build my diet around whole, nutritious foods. The pounds fell off and most importantly, they've stayed off for 12ish years now.
Again, congrats on finding what works for you!0 -
Glad you found what's working for you. Congrats!
I have to wonder, though....
If she found what worked for her that didn't include calorie counting - what is she doing on a calorie counting website?0 -

Perhaps she's not changing her ticker. Perhaps she lost a lot before adding the ticker. Who knows.0 -

^^This, pretty much. I also try to avoid trans fats.0 -
I did not say I didn't believe portion control was unimportant. One of my personal biggest focuses is portion control. I was merely expressing what someone else believed on the subject.0

I am definitely happy with my gluten free lifestyle!0
