Taking a break and maintain between goals--Okay or nonsense?

I have set a goal weight for December 31 and am five pounds away from it. My thinking is that, once I reach that goal, I would take a break and do maintenance until February 1 to give my body a chance to reset and to take some pressure off of myself during my busiest time at work. During this time, I would reevaluate and set a new goal. Is this reasonable or foolish?

Sounds like a great idea to me.0

I say go for it! The only reason I would advise against this, is if you feel like you won't be able to get back on track in Feb.0

I don't' see a problem... do what makes you comfortable! :-)0

If it works for you. It will be less stressfull than trying to do both things at the same time.
You have to do what works best for you. I have upped my calories for the holidays.0 -
Your body doesn't need to "reset"—I don't even know what that's supposed to mean—but your mind probably does. Just make sure you still track and log everything, and check your weight frequently to make sure you ARE maintaining. Once you're at your final goal, that's how you're going to have to do things in order to keep the weight off. Just look at it as practice for when you're in long-term maintenance.0

Sounds like a good idea. You lose weight faster if you go back to maintenance once in a while cos being in calorie deficit for long times slows your metabolism. Also your immune system weakens and hormone levels goes down eventually if you keep deficit for too long. So this is good idea, give your body time to rest and reset. And of course mentally you will rest as well from dieting. I don't think it's good idea, I think it's GREAT idea. ^^0

No it doesn't. People might burn fewer calories as they reduce in weight, but isn't that to be expected, given that one's body mass has reduced?0 -
that is a really good idea! thank you for sharring, i would like to try this as well!0

Thank you so much for your responses! They have helped support my thought process. And, yes, I am determined to stay on track with logging to make sure I am staying within my calorie range.0

Then I think you'll do fine. Best of luck! It's all about being realistic and doing what you can sustain over the long haul. :drinker:0 -
