Cooking for Diabetics

My in laws are staying with us for Christmas and they are both diabetics, one only recently diagnosed. Can anyone give me guidance on what a diabetic's diet should look like so I can cook meals accordingly? Thanks!

It's great that you're planning ahead for your in-laws' visit, and want to be sure to have foods they feel comfortable eating. There isn't one set diabetic diet, and each person's needs are a bit different. You might talk with your in-laws about the types of foods they prefer to have on hand. There's also excellent information at www.diabetes.org, including ideas for meal planning and even recipes. ~Lynn /Glucerna

Just go for lower carb selections. If you do prepare grains, make them whole grains. Serve more vegetables than fruit, less starchy vegetables than non-starchy.

    Grilled meats and vegetables.
    Stew, chili or soup.
    Omelets
    Stir Fry
