 Hey Guys,
I work 3pm-11pm Monday to Friday. I try my best to have breakfast each day. However, scheduling lunch and dinner is very hard for me. My break is around 6pm. But it's after 11pm I become extremely hunger, 99% of the time i am eating large meals.

Would anyone recommend any eating schedule? How did you overcome night time hunger?

It doesn't matter what time you eat, as long as you don't go over your calories.
I work midnights, and I'm not usually hungry when I get up to get ready for work. So a lot of the time I skip breakfast or eat my breakfast meal when I get home from work in the morning. Whatever works best for your body.

Eat when you are hungry and try to keep lower calorie the rest of the day. All you have to do is hit your calorie goal, time of day is not an issue. It's not true that you shouldn't eat late at night because it'll make you gain weight.

i get really hungry late at night and luckily sleep through it usually but if I knokw i'm gonna be up late i at least allow myself 200 cals for a snack.

if i were counting on being up late everyday I'd make my biggest meal at that time since time of day is a non issue with weight loss, that's a myth and you can eat your biggest meal whenever you need it due to being the hungriest. I'm seriously considering changing mine to 2pm because being an early sleeper now, that's my hungriest time of day.

I used to work 3-11 on weekends.. I used to take my break and eat my dinner during my break. I'd have lunch at 1-2ish and breakfast whenever (i used to skip breakfast a lot, but when I ate it it was probably around 7am before my 1st job). If you're really hungry after 11, eat a small snack. If you plan out your meals ahead of time and pack everything you'll be able to stay within you goals without a problem. This is what I do.. I literally pack everything but dinner ( I no longer work in the afternoons) and lug it all to work with me everyday. Breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks. Helps me tremendously.

Really with that schedule you're pretty much going to be hungry after work. Think about it.. you're eating dinner around 6ish then for 5 hours your up, working and using energy. More then those of us relaxing at home are using. Learn your body and what it needs. If you really don't want to eat at night, for whatever reason. Try increasing your protein at your break meal and try pushing your break back to 7 or even 8 (if that's possible?) Some people believe in Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a pauper.. maybe you need to reverse that?

How many times per day do you eat? if you are only eating 3 meals and nothing in between you might do better by breaking your intake up into smaller amounts more frequently (works best for me). Everyone is individual on what we need. Experiment with different meal times, different number of meals and different macros. If you're're eating lots of little meals, try eating more substantial meals less often. (like 3-4)

If you've eaten all your calorie for the day and you're very hungry at the end of your shift maybe you aren't eating enough calories to begin with? How much are you eating? Where did you derive that number from?

There's science behind weight loss, but a lot of it is trial and error to see what works best for you.

I work 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm... I usually get up a little late because I stay up late. My typical eating schedule is ;;; up around 8:00am ish .. 1 cup of coffee and head to the gym.. back around 10:30ish. Eat small breakfast or a smoothie and pack lunch and dinner. Take a break around 3ish and eat something.. My big meal, dinner is around 7:30-8:00.. I usually still have calories left so when I get home around 10:45 I can eat a little snack and even have some skinny cow ice cream :-) good stuff ! I started out needing to lose 75 lbs... Been doing mfp about 75 days now, have Never been over my daily goal and have been losing 2 + pounds a week after the 2nd week. . I've learned that everything is available to me in moderatiion ! Good Luck, Discipline is The Key !

Nothing wrong with eating at night, you're fine.
  • I used to work 1:30pm-10:30pm and I can't really offer you schedule as people get hungry at different times but if you're allowed to keep a snack at your work area or desk, try to keep a ziploc bag of grapes or apples (cut up) to help you get full. I'm not sure when you say you eat a big meal if it's healthy or not but try prepacking your lunch beforehand. Make a salad a bring sides like baked chicken, cranberries, walnuts, a light cheese, and dressing and make that your big meal.

I frequently have 400 calories after 10pm or later. I leave calories for the time of day / evening when I know I'm most hungry.

Doesn't seem to have hampered my weight loss.
