Tired all the time! Advice anyone?

Options
Hello out there,

first of all please forgive me for my english, I am german :) I hope you understand what I mean ;)

So, the problem:

For about 4-5 weeks now I feel tired the whole day. With tired I mean "nearly falling asleep". It's really getting annoying, because I have a kinda stressy semester, my job I have to attend, a boyfriend I want to spend time with, a social life I want to be part of - but for the last few weeks everyday is mostly like this:
Get up - breakfast - go to university or work - get home - lunch - try not to fall asleep - dinner - try not to fall asleep - bed time.

First I tried coffee, energy drinks and so on, but it didn't work.

What I did so far:

I went to my doc to get my blood checked and everything was fine.
I sleep around 7-9h every night;
I walk / ride my bike for at least 40min a day (I don't own a car, so I have to use my bike to get anywhere ;))

I feel very tired when I'm dehydrated... like almost narcoleptic. Coffee makes it worse because it dehydrates. How's your water intake?

    Could you be anemic? Pregnant?

I am the same way not really tired but more exhausted.

    I started taking b12
Except I was taking it around 11 a and it wasn't kicking in until 6 hrs layer and I was up until 3am. I found out today from a nurse at work that it should be taken before bed.

Do you have a new birth control or any at all I have the implanon and have gained 50 lbs while on it lack of energy and sex drive good luck

I'm also exhausted all the time. When I get this stressed, I can sleep all I want and yet still be exhausted all the time. On our five day weekend we just had, I'm starting to feel rested now after being off work for five days. If you've ruled out medical, my best advice is to let go of anything that adds to your to-do list. For me, that means cleaning and cooking anything other than quick and easy stuff, lol. I also stopped working out, plus stopped stressing about everything being perfect homework wise (I'm a teacher plus working on my masters thesis). Most times "done" is way more important to me than "perfect" lately.

Has anything in your life changed in the last 4/5 weeks which could have resulted in this sleepiness?

Your diary shows that you are eating a good amount so probably not a lack of fuel but there is no water logged so as someone said previously are you getting dehydrated?

Although I say you you are eating a good amount you do also have a really active lifestyle, College, job, socialising and walking/riding your bike everywhere so I am wondering what activity level you put in when you set up your MFP goals?

Is your doctor doing any more investigations into the problem because that would be the best route to go down

    1. PROTEIN! (get more of it, people say 1g per 1lb, but thats probably over the top. its important tho.)

    2. VITAMINS! (take a multivitamin, that will probably help too)

    3. FRUIT & VEGETABLES (5 PLUS SERVINGS A DAY)

    4. IRON SUPPLEMENT ( if your doctor didn't check your iron levels, get them checked. if you are not sure, check again)

NOTES: Anemia is the go to for girls feeling lethargic, if you up your protein, add a vitamin (if you don't use one), make sure you are getting your 5 a day.

arathena720 is right, you could look at lightening your load. don't burn yourself out.

    first of all:
    thanks for your answers!

I don't log water, because I never had any problems with drinking enough. I usually drink around 4-5liters a day, so that should not be the problem.

@Chris: I set it my activity level to the lowest, because I like to add my burned calories :)

On wednesday I'll go to my doctor again, but I was thinking, maybe I can get some inspirations here, so if you have any ideas: keep going! :)

What about just getting extra sleep a few early nights for a week, if you are more active maybe your body needs more rest than previously necessary?

You could be drinking too much water and flushing electrolytes out of your body. I get very sleepy like you have described if I drink more than 2 litres a day,

Maybe cut back on the water and see if it makes a difference.

If you haven't already checked, have you vitamin D levels in you blood checked. I felt the same way about a month ago and when I had some routine blood work done it came back very low on Vitamin D. The minumum recomended level was 30 (somethings, I don't remember the units) and I had 19. Added a vitamin D supplement and with in days had my energy back. My doctor said is was common in my area of the US for women to be low on vitamin D, don't know if it is something you doctor will automatically check for.

sounds like slightly too much water maybe,,,your body needs water yes but sometimes too much water wont help either...cut back to 2 litres only and see how you feel...

For me from looking at your diary you are not getting enough vegetables and good things in your diet. You are eating enough, but make sure you include fresh salads and vegetables in at least lunch and dinner, maybe cut out some of the bread and increase your lean proteins as well.

again: thanks for all your help! :) I am really happy that so many people try to help me!

I will try to drink less... I always struggled with drinking to much water ( when I was 17-18 y/o, I drank around 6-7 liters of water a day...).
I'll try to stay within 3-4 Liters for the next week.

@piersonj: I will check my results when I get home, if Vitamin D was tested, otherwill I will get that checked, too. :)

And I will focus on getting more veggies and less bread (oh, I love bread so much :D)
