I purchased a HRM with chest strap and watch. I hate it. It irritates the hell out of me when I am working out. I looked on amazon and the fitbit zip is only $50. So before I order one I just wanted to see what people thought about it.

I love my Fitbit, though I don't have the Zip but a similar one. If you want it sooner, I think it's also $50 at a lot of stores today. Check out Target, Walgreens, Best Buy, Radio Shack. I'm guessing it'll be back to $60 tomorrow. I'd use an actual store if possible because it's not uncommon for them to not work right and you have to exchange it at least once.0

A Fitbit won't replace a HRM unless all you do is walk/run type exercise. It's really a fancy pedometer and measures your steps to estimate your calorie burn for the day. It's a fun little toy and can motivate you to be more active though.0

Loved my Zip. I dropped it off the roof like a moron, but I can't wait to get a new one. It was really helpful in motivating me to just... move my butt more.0

So it wont measure my cal burns for other exercise other than walking? I do biking, Crossfit and am getting ready to start 30DS.0

It will estimate your calorie burn for step-based activities including walking, running, dancing, housework, yard work and such. It has no way of knowing when you're on a bike, holding a sandbag or a barbell, unless you tell it by manually logging those activities. It beats an HRM in that it shows you an estimate of your entire burn across the day, not just your 'workout'. Basically, it's good for the other 23 hours.0

Bump. I'm going to ask for one for Christmas and want to read the comments. If I can ask more questions? Which HRM would you choose? Do HRMs estimate calories burned? If not the FitBit Zip then which one?0

I have used a Fitbit in conjunction with my HRM before. I wear the Fitbit all the time except for when I am taking part in a formal exercise activity. I take it off for that time and use my HRM to measure calories burned instead, and I input that here on MFP and input on Fitbit.com that I had it off for a workout. It works well that way. I have a Polar FT7 HRM and really like it.0

I wear my Fitbit One nearly all day long. I dont take it off during fitness workouts. I wear a Polar FT60 while exercising. After exercise, I enter the workout on MFP's site and this will override the fitbit entry for the same time period. You have to make sure to enter the start time and the duration of the activity to it correctly overrides the time and does not give you extra calories.
There is no need to take it off during exercise unless you dont want to wear it. There is no need to enter the info on Fitbit's site if you are synced to MFP. Actually, I rarely go to the fitbit site or app on my phone. Only when there is a sync issue do I go there. Everything I do, I can do from MFP.0
