Christmas gift/tip for instructor at gym?

Just wondering if there is any protocol for giving a holiday tip or gift to a group fitness instructor at the gym? I go to the same classes on Sundays and Wednesdays because the instructor is so awesome. I thought I should probably give a little gift at year-end, but my wife says it's not necessary and might be awkward...I'm thinking she just doesn't want me giving gifts to other women.
