Beating myself up

I am beating myself up because I just am not staying focused on my weight loss, even with my growing muffin top! I can't figure out why I have become so lazy. Maybe it is the fact that winter has set in. Maybe it's because I have been so focused on the home improvements we have been doing. All I know is that I have gained 12 lbs back and I hate it but can't motivate it! Grrrrrr.

Sounds to me like you are overwhelmed with stuff to do. Everything will get done in time. For me I know this is a busy time of year. Lots going on so I have already trying to think of creative ways to get my calorie burn time in wether it's short quick walks instead of a long work out or whatever. For me also I stay focused by checking in with friends on here. i look forward to see how they are doing and I look forward to my weigh ins to see my progress. It's not going to be perfect but I think if we are still working daily something is getting done...hopefully!

Think of how you'll look when you peel off those winter layers of clothing.....

Honey, please don't beat yourself up. If you never messed up, you wouldn't be human.

It's more about health and sustainability over the long haul. If you're trending down in general, then you're moving in the right direction. There are bound to be some blips along the way.

    You should stop doing that.

Start your morning by coming on here and reading the success stories. Second, think of what a pain in the *kitten* it was to lose the weight in the first place!! When I gained the 30 lbs back that I lost, I was hard on myself for over a year. I went through such a depression. Don't do this to yourself.

Are you weighing and measuring all of your food?

Don't beat yourself up, make a plan of exercise and healthy eating/calories and take one day at a time :)

Stop wasting your energy on feeling bad about things in the past that you can't change. Instead use that energy for a more productive purpose of creating a plan for the next few weeks. Maybe you don't have time to exercise right now with all the things you've got going on but you can still log your food and if you stay under your calories, you'll still lose the weight.

Hey there, don't beat yourself up. Everyone has a time in their life when things are super busy. When my mom was ill I did not have time to workout because I was taking care of her, my daughter, my home, and working. In essence doing everything except taking care of me. Make a list of all the things that you have going on and see if you can delegate something to someone else. For me I have delegated certain house cleaning duties to my honey. This frees up some of my time to get a workout in. Also try to find a workout that does not require a lot of time. Everyone has 20 to 30 minutes somewhere in the day, even if it is broken up into 10 minutes here and there or 15 minutes... Make time to take care of you and you will be able to take care of everyone else!

I guess I will be the only brutally honest person and say it sounds like you are making excuses..

Are you really saying that because of "home improvement" projects that you cannot find the time to create a calorie deficit by eating less, really??

You took the time to post a thread on here..why not use that time to pre-log your meals and make sure that you are in a calorie deficit...

If you do this, you will start losing...

Do one thing right today. Take one step in the right direction. A walk after dinner. Logging your food. Planning your meals for tomorrow ahead of time so that you're less likely to overeat. Researching some new ways to be active. Tomorrow, take another step.

Just for today, you are going to take a moment to be thankful for the capable body you have.

You will treat yourself to a simple but delicious lunch and dinner with lots of veggies and a good amount of protein.

You will give yourself the gift of a brisk walk in fresh air, or if it's too cold, put music on and dance around your living room.

It can be tough to get motivated and stay motivated. The easy answer is: no one is going to do it for you. It's all on you. So if you're not in the mood to do it, it isn't going to happen. I hope you get the bug and get going! If not, take it easy on yourself. Being mean to yourself isn't going to get it done. Losing weight is about being kinder to your body!

    "If it is important to me, I will find a way;
If not, I will find an excuse."

Sounds like fitness/weight loss isn't all that important right now. I hope your priorities change.

ETA: That is one of the many affirmations/motivations I have on my profile. If you need more, check out my profile.

Thank you all for your words of wisdom and encouragement. Yes, it is a busy time of the year, yes I have been overwhelmed by home improvements because I am doing them by myself, mostly painting and dry wall repairs. Tomorrow is a new day and life is full of second chances. Thanks again.
  • although I think it can be beneficial to analyze the "whys" and "what ifs" of a situation. In this case, I think you just have to start anew. Whatever has transpired in the past...is in the past. today, you are where you are. this is your beginning...and you can make weight loss happen starting today. keep motivated. that is one of my biggest problems (with respect to many aspects of life). I dwell, when I should just be doing. good luck!

If beating ourselves up solved our problems, we would be PERFECT. You live once with one body and mind. Recondition them both so they can benefit you for years to come.

In life we have 2 roads, we can take the proactive road (healthy living..exercise...portion control, etc.) or the aftermath/consquence road (medications associated with being overweight), feeling bad for letting ourselves get to that place, etc) Now ask yourself which road works for you?

    You can do this.
