Weight gain from exercise

Well, it seems I have put on just over 8 lbs but the inches are down, think it must be to do with the weight training I am doing on the multigym and free weights as well as Jillian Michaels DVDs. Not really bothered about the weight part to be honest, still in a size 12 so happy. Is weight gain common though, have been exercising solidly for 6 months now and the weight was falling off before but I seem to have gained some and also the inches are falling off still and I am still a size 12 but have a little muscle definition. I have also stuck to the same food I had before but have gone off track a bit in the last week due to Xmas meals etc

Whenever you add a new exercise regimen, or increase the intensity of a current exercise regimen, the body will retain water for muscle repair until it adapts to the new levels of stress.

In the past, whenever I start lifting again after a period of not lifting, I immediately gained three or so pounds. It just happens. I try to tell myself it's still good for me. I love how I feel when I'm strong, so the number on the scale doesn't matter as much.

    That's broscience.
  • I don't feel to bad now haha, have got a new fulltime job so am walking for up to 7 to 9 hours a day whereas before I was only walking about 4 when I was part time so along with pulling cages and filling shelves along with weights this makes sense. Thanks, just couldnt understand how I had suddenly gained so much so quickly lol
