Back in the game!!!

J here...how is everyone doing?

I am 32 years old and live in the San Diego area. I am weighing in at a cool 310lb right now. Always been a very tall, broad guy and fairly active but since having kids, things have definitely dropped off. I moved form the UK to the US 3 years ago which hasn't helped.

I weighed about 308lb when I got here and went on a massive effort, getting down to 285lb which was great. I had a way to go, but I felt good. On the side, I am a musician in a heavy rock band and I felt fantastic on stage. Then Thanksgiving rolled around that year and I lost it all.

Now I am back on it and I need to do it. I have three kids, a good job and the only thing in my life that I have never been satisfied with is my health and my weight. I'm getting older and I am starting to feel it a little.

My weaknesses? Carbs is always a killer so I am taking steps to take that away from my everyday life. Sandwiches, pasta etc... But my biggest problem is grazing...constant munching. I run to Home Depot to get something and get to check out and grab a pack of m&m's. My wife makes cookies. I don't have one. I have 5. My boy doesn't finish his grilled cheese. Guess what? Run to 7-Eleven to grab a coffee and come out with 2 taquitos. Sucks. I hate it.

I have to stop this cycle...when I was loosing weight a couple of years ago, I was doing Kettlebell three times a week which really helped. Planning to get back on this too.

I am looking at hitting high protein and really reducing the carbs and the crappy snacks, sodas, etc. Eating a lot more vegetables and good lean meats. So this last week, I have had a protein shake for breakfast and that has worked really well at filling me up till way beyond lunch. Any guidance, advice and support you guys can muster would go a long way in helping.

It would be great to have a few people to interact with on this level and keep each other going.

Thanks all!

    Welcome!!!!

You have two cute reasons to do this (assuming the two kids are yours, not the turkey ha ha )
You have great plans, now its time to do it!!!! Stopping that grazing will do a TON. Stop and think "am I Hungry or do these MnMs look good"? Usually they look good. BTW I've read you have to walk the length of a football field to work off ONE MnM..... think of That the next time you look at one, innocent looking, MnM

Feel free to friend me if you'd like

Hi Guess What, I'm back in the Game too.

I used to weigh 364.1. I did not face the reality of how big I got till even my stretchy clothes became tight.
So Far I've lost about 18 Lbs. As of last Thursday.
I actually started logging in on Thanksgiving. and have been doing okay.
I know all about temptation. I'm an Executive Pastry Chef. and I'm around food all day. These past couple of years have been super stressful and that's when I put loads of weight on.

What's worked for me is really owning up to the reasons I want to lose the weight. And I've spent a lot of time figuring it all out.
The reasons include, Health. Extra Weight is hard on your body, especially the knees.
Just losing 10% of your body weight takes tremendous stress off of them.
Also, Emotional Eating: I've eaten for stress, for anger, Boredom, etc etc. It's about getting real about how eating when I'm any of these things really doesn't help in the long run. The stress is still there, boredom etc. It's about finding another way to work through them than how I used to do it. Knowing that all these emotional things PASS. sooner or later. helps.

I picked up a book. Dr. Oz. YOU on A DIet.
There's some great recipes for Soups. I've made the Garden Vegetable one and the Lentil one and it's easy, filling and good for you. And the Calorie Counts are low.

Sweets. Yeah I know about them. I just Iced a bunch of Retro Hostess Cupcakes, I didn't eat any of the Chocolate ganache that I use to top these. I subbed out 2 Bosc Pears. I cut them up and Sat down and ate them.
    Huge calorie difference.
You I think just have to figure out how to sub some things for other things, Only you know how and when you eat and it's a great opportunity for you to design your own program.
That's what is working for me.

    Kiki.
Oh, PS. another thing. I'm not telling people outside of this community what I am doing. I don't want to be bothered with their questions, prodding etc. I think that's important too. It keeps your momentum Up.

That food thing is the toughest for me as well. Our habits sound very similar. Sent you a FR.
