I recently started drinking 3 liters of water a day. Is this good or no? The last thing I want to do is drink all this water and than have my body retain it. I run heavy on mon-wed-fri and on tues-thurs i do a 45 min intense full body workout with a personal trainer. Any thoughts?

How do you feel after drinking 3 liters of water?

If you're constantly pouring water down your throat, you're not going to retain it. Your body wants to maintain a specific water/salt ratio, so if you're drinking more water than usual and you're doing a lot of exercise, you may want to make sure you're actually getting enough *salt*. You'll know you need a salt pickup if you're feeling unusually tired, run-down or dizzy and eating pickles or a couple potato chips makes a huge difference.

(This is why sports drinks like Gatorade have salt in them - to replenish salts lost via sweating).

There is no benefit to drinking large quantities of water. If your urine is pale yellow then you're hydrated. You risk flushing out vital minerals and vitamins your body needs along with stressing your kidneys by drinking excess water that you just pee back out.
