Ok so I have been messing around with my HRM and MFP goals. When I go to do my goals it tells me I naturally burn 2000 as lightly active or somewhere around there. Well one day I left my HRM on for four hours around the house, I stay home with the kids, it was a pretty normal setting no laundry and no cleaning just laying around with the kids doing crafts and watching some tv. My HRM said that I had burned 680 calories, that's 170 an hour. I am not sure how much it changes while you sleep but honestly I have two kids to get up with so I am lucky to get 4 to 6 hours of sleep. But even if you say 150 an hour that's 3600 calories. So I guess I am thrown off by this 2000 naturally burn I would think at least 3000 right?? I am thinking this all right? I know something needs to change. I have been working out for two weeks now and burning 500 to 1000 calories a day working out and eating under my calories. I haven't lost anything at all??? I do about 60 minutes of strength and 60 minutes of cardio. I just started being able to run so I am hoping that maybe burning some more calories faster might help.

I looked at your diary and see several days not logged or days where your dinner was 1cup of chex mix, if you dont eat enough you should be starving your body and not losing weight.

Yes there was several days I have my stuff just written down I haven't gotten to adding it. The days that I don't come close to my calorie intake I'm just not hungry, should I be forcing myself to eat?? I don't make the healthiest food choices so sometimes I'd rather not eat at all :(

HRM are not designed to give you a caloric burn when not in the fat burning or cardio zone, so don't trust the numbers you get when your heart rate is not elevated.

For the not losing weight portion, try eating back your exercise calories or at least most of them, it sounds weird but sometimes you have to eat more to lose more. Also keep in mind that getting less than 7 hours of sleep a night can affect weight loss dramatically. It is recommended to get anywhere from 7.5 - 9 hours a night. Less than 7 and more than 9 can impact your health.

And on another note don't forget to back out the calories you would have burned at rest when entering exercise calories as they are already accounted for in your base caloric intake. What I mean by this is most people burn 1 - 1.5 cals per minute at rest so if you exercise for 2 hours you would have burned a min of 120 caloires (120 min x 1 cal/min) So if your HRM says you burned 850 in 2 hours you should enter 730 to account for the double counted calories you would have burned anyway.

You still want to eat close to your caloric intake even after you exercise. If you burn way more than you take in and dont make up the difference the body will go into "stavation" mode and hold on to fat. Seems kind of goofy but hey so is the fact that the body is 90percent water yet im always thisty. Good luck!

You need to net no fewer than 1200 a day for example if you eat 1500 cals and burn off 500 in exercise your body is only getting 1000 cals a day which isnt enough for it to just function. I have personally found that I lose more weight eating most of my exercise cals.
Of course you said it too, you HAVE to make good choices, eat balanced meals and keep your body energized, if you dont you will find it harder that the 1 cup of chex mix isnt going to fuel your body as a meal.

Ok that makes me feel better about that then.

I do need to eat more, I guess I feel its hard to make healthy choices. I have enough calories left over to even not eat the healthiest but sometimes I almost feel thats worse. The sleep thing really bugs me but I don't have much of a choice. A toddler that doesn't sleep and an infant that needs to eat just isn't the greatest mix. I really hope thats not what is holding my body up or I'll never lose it.

Do you have a fast heart rate, even when you are resting? Mine's about 90/minute, so--if I had an HRM--it would probably think I was always dancing around the house, instead of walking.

I call myself "sedentary" on this site, wear a pedometer at all times, and--besides counting my footsteps--I count housework, cooking, pushing a shopping cart (= pushing a stroller), dancing, singing, and actual exercising! ;).

Hope I helped a little. :drinker: (water)

wow ok I never thought about it being fast I guess it is. While sitting doing nothing for twenty minutes its between 75 and 90. So when you do the little things like say cleaning and all that do you use your HRM. I started too but then I got kinda weird about it and thought well wait if I count 4 to 5 hours of stuff then do I need to take out my calories that I would naturally burn??
