There are advantages and disadvantages to arranged marriage.0

You could torture your parents if you were locked into this situation and your fiance had a sense of humor lol0

Yes, but I don't have to bang my inlaws.0

There are actually a few benefits to arranged marriage and only a few draw backs. I have many friends who are in them and we discuss it quite openly.
I will qualify my comments with this is what I've experienced in my limited circle of influence:
1) Whenever there is strife in a marriage, no one supports the marriage and jumps right to judging and advising divorce.
Conversely, in an arranged marriage, the family and friends are much more likely to support working through whatever the troubles-du-jour may be.
2) there does seem to be some thought given to how each party will interact/integrate into the others' family. This seems to be a big source of contention in non-arranged marriages
3) In arranged marriages, it seems to be more of an interview process, where there is a match to what each wants from the other instead of basing the decision solely on emotion. The emotion comes later and more rationally-based.
Drawbacks include the stereotypes:
1) Underage/plural marriages
2) Not mutually consensual0 -

I've read that they found water on the moon. Doesn't mean you should plant a garden there though.0 -
It is viewed as a business partnership and a lot of things are matched to make sure it somewhat works because a lot of people are involved in the decision.
I mean I can't go to a bank and expect them to give me a loan just cause I have this great feeling that I will succeed, they do a lot of background investigation to make sure the business is a solid investment for both sides.
But on the other hand if the partners aren't interested in trying to make the venture successful then it might be rough.0 -
A couple that works for the same company were chosen for each other by their families. I don't know all the details, but they met and were so happy with each other that they asked their parents if they could be married immediately... they were married in a matter of days and are extremely happy. They are both under 30 years old.0
