Hi. I am looking to learn more about these eating styles that involve micro and macro nutrients. I am hoping some of you can point me in the direction of some solid and reputable sources of information. After the beginning of the year I am taking this thing to a stratospheric level. But I'll admit will need help along the way! I have the MINDSET firmly in place. Now i need tools in order to execute! Thanks in advance!

Macro: Carbohydrates, Fats and Proteins. These three macros encompass the caloric value of any particular food/drink item. Many people will opt for the approach to difine exactly how much of each macro they are going to eat. For many, this help both count calories, and ensure their body is receiving the macronutrients it needs. Common macro splits are (40% Carbohydrates, 40% Protein and 20% Fats). With Fats being 9 calories per gram, and Protein and Carbs both being 4 calories per gram, this allows you to know exactly how many grams to eat every day.
Micro: This includes all your Minerals and Vitamins. Most people overlook these as they are not immediately critical to weightloss. However, they are essential for overall optimal nutrition. If eating a diversified servings of fruits and vegetables each day, you are most likely receiving all the micro nutrients your body needs. Simple things, like quality multi vitamins etc and minimize the necessity to obsess over these nutrients.
Regardless of your goals at this point, I would read up on BMR and TDEE. Discover their meenings and their function with weightloss and weightgain. These values are not going to be spot on perfect, but they can serve as a baseline to guide you through your goals.0 -
Thanks for the good info! I've been reading up on this all afternoon. I did some calculations with an online calculator. The concept of eating more to lose is one I need to get my head around. I have the traditional weight/fat loss mentality. It's time to expand my horizons! What I need to figure out is how to calculate the fat, carb and protein ratios for macros. There seems to be some very specific methodology to it,0
